4.45pm Chelmsford Tips & Betting Preview 01/12/2016

Plenty of interesting horses from big yards turn out here for the £5,822 winning prize and it should be run at a good clip. Read on for our experts’ thoughts and betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: Coastal Cyclone wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Kempton on his last start and can get involved here if building on that. Kings Academy was second at Kempton ahead of Five Star Frank 8 last week and can go close but SHABEEH ran well for a long way here last time out and the drop down to 6f should suit him and if positively ridden again here could be tough to pass.

1 Alfonso Manana – Dutch Art Colt who is a half-brother to 3 winners including the smart 7f/1m winner Ganimed and 5f winner Noble Asset. Market vibes will be positive on debut given pedigree.

2 Arzaak – Previously trained by Owen Burrows and had three runs so far. Latest fourth if 10 at Ffos Las 97 days ago wouldn’t be enough in this line-up and best watched on debut for Chris Dwyer.

3 Coastal Cyclone – Three runs and has shown fair form so far. Fourth of 13 in a Maiden at Kempton 15 days ago and can improve here if positioned better than he was in his last race. Solid place-claims.

4 Five Star Frank – Exceed And Excel Colt who has had three runs so far, the latest coming at Kempton 8 days ago. Only fifth of 12 that day and not beaten far that day. Will need a lot more to get involved here.

5 Kings Academy – Mayson Colt who has had three runs so far, showing steady progression in each. Second of 12 at Kempton 8 days ago ahead of the re-opposing Five Star Frank and has further progression in him. Has a fair chance.

6 Shabeeh – Only four runs for Mark Johnston the most recent coming here 26 days ago. Only 3 lengths behind in fourth that day not seeing out the 7f from the front. Drop down to 6f will suit and similar tactics could seem him hard to beat.

7 Vibes – Three runs to date for the yard haven’t yielded much. Only eighth of 10 in a Maiden at Kempton 44 days ago and looked in need of further. Six furlongs probably still inadequate here and can be ruled out today.

8 Canberra Cliffs – Lightly-raced Filly by Canford Cliffs who was previously trained in Ireland by David Wachman. Well below form seventh of 12 in a Nursery at Gowran 92 days ago. Makes Polytrack debut today and will no doubt come on for the run in which others look to have better chances.

9 Her Terms – Filly by Pivotal who sets the standard judged on her six runs so far. Finished fourth of 10 at York in October and looked below form that day. Can get involved here if getting back to her previous AW form but needs to in this field with plenty of pace around.
