IN SUMMARY: KRIS SPIN needs a little bit to be taken on trust having not done well over fences last season. He was hugely progressive when last seen over hurdles, placing from a mark of 140. He competes off 132 here with a seven pound claimer taking off further so looks very well treated for Kerry Lee’s only runner on the card. Beneficial Joe is steadily progressive, the horse he beat last time bolted up at Market Rasen on Saturday so he needs plenty of respect for all that the ground may be softer than is ideal. Night Generation may do better now back in a tongue strap.
KRIS SPIN – Very progressive hurdler when last seen over the smaller obstacles in the spring of 2014. Never really took to fences last season on his return from an absence so should be happier now. Thrown in if able to rediscover his old form, interesting proposition.
OH LAND ABLOOM – Plenty of placed form in handicaps from similar marks in the past, including at about this trip. Needs a little more from nine pounds above his last winning mark, especially if there is more rain.
DESILVANO – Lightly raced since winning a Catterick novice in January 2015, racing just once in the last twenty-three months. Well treated on the best of his form with conditions to suit if he can find that form once more.
BENEFICIAL JOE – Got the best of a dour scrap last time out, the front pair pulling well clear. The runner-up dotted up at Market Rasen on Saturday to give the form a boost. He remains capable of better but all his best form has come on genuinely good ground.
LINGUINE – Brave front runner has been a credit to his connections. He is still to truly prove his stamina for this trip, so for all that he is two pounds below his sole hurdling winning mark, he is passed over.
TEAK – Thoroughly exposed, he has generally been on the downgrade in the three years since his last win. That success came over this course and distance from eight pounds higher so a case can be made, but others should progress past him.
INVICTA LAKE – A dual course winner, he has been in the first three on eight of his eleven visits, Out of action since March 2016 he is entitled to need this outing but has won fresh and is well treated on his best form on soft ground.
CLONDAW BISTO – Solid form in both bumpers and hurdles in 2016, including a win here. Has shown next to nothing since the calendar turned to 2017, needs the new trip to bring about a chunk of improvement if he is to figure.
NIGHT GENERATION – 0/8 in this discipline, placed from three pounds higher in May. Has been disappointing the last twice on the flat but the tongue strap that was missing there is back on. Needs a little more to score but may well outrun his odds.
BURGESS DREAM – Solid enough at his own level, but that is a long way below this. Thirteen pounds out the handicap, he is rightfully the wide outsider of this field.
