IN SUMMARY: SET IN STONE has been on a spectacular run of form this summer, winning four times in her last five runs. The cut in the ground will be perfect for her and it’s not hard to imagine that she still has plenty more improvement to come. Sophie P comes down in class at a track she has done well at in the past so she is the main danger from the progressive Whatsthemessage, who has enjoyed an excellent campaign.
SOPHIE P – Began the season in smart form but has lost her way a little since. This is a step down in class so she needs respecting, a runner-up both times she has run at this track. Strong each way claims providing the ground doesn’t soften any more.
SET IN STONE – Progressed well up the handicap ranks this summer at a lower level, now nineteen pounds higher after four wins in five runs. The softer the better for her and despite being up in class, her run of rude health means she is very much the one to beat.
WHATSTHEMESSAGE – Her run of improvement hit a wall last time when stepped up to Group 3 level. She had previously notched a four timer, with a win here and one at this level. More needed from this mark but she has been in sparkling form.
PEACH MELBA – Another who has been in winning form this summer, it appeared that the handicapper had caught up last time. Mark Johnston inmates do rebound from the odd poor run well, but this trip might just stretch her at this level.
ALEXANDRAKOLLONTAI – Thoroughly exposed, she has only run well once in nine visits to this track. No issues with the trip but better ground would suit ideally and would make far more appeal if this were being run at Hamilton.
LUCKY VIOLET – Nearly fourteen months since she was last seen in action, landing a win over seven furlongs here. Lightly enough raced to have more improvement in the tank, providing she is match fit at the first time of asking.
INVERMERE – Consistent at her level, running with credit the three times she has run here. A pound higher than when beaten in a lesser race last time out, she is going to need a significant step forward to take a hand.
FOREVER A LADY – Tough to win with, she hasn’t shown much affinity with this track in eight previous visits. The very best of her form is over shorter so although the ground will suit, it is a small positive amongst more pressing negatives.
