IN SUMMARY: The intriguing runner in this race is Winterfell, who hasn’t been seen for 690 days where he was second to Sceau Royal on his British debut. Market support would be interesting but preference is for WESTERN CLIMATE, who was set two very tough tasks in handicaps last season by Tom Weston. He goes well fresh and is finally dropped in class, with him still being unexposed as a stayer. Sean Bowen takes the ride and he should prove very tough to beat off this mark.

OH LAND ABLOOM – Only beaten by a head when second at Market Rasen in April, pulling up at Haydock when last seen. His current mark is feasible and conditions are fine, but others are preferred as his overall record is poor.

WINTERFELL – Only one British run thus far for this five year old, chasing home Sceau Royal at Warwick in November 2015. That was nearly two years ago and it’s impossible to know where he is, but his current mark isn’t bad based on that run and market support would be hugely interesting.

WESTERN CLIMATE – Tailed off on both his handicap runs the last twice, both in much tougher Class 2 races. He remains unexposed as a stayer and goes well fresh, with a drop in class and a drop in the weights meaning he should be very tough to beat.

SPORTING BOY – Second run back from a long absence when a very good second at Newton Abbot in August, now only two pounds higher. He’ll be much happier down in trip and looks a key player under Noel Fehily with fitness on his side.

SOLWAY DANDY – Running well of late for Lisa Harrison, finishing a neck second over this distance in July. This is only his third try at the distance and he’s thoroughly unexposed as a stayer, so he holds an outside chance of placing off what remains a tough mark.

BENEFICIAL JOE – Ran well to finish third at Newton Abbot in July, well beaten in two runs since though which is disconcerting. He’s only a pound lower than his seventh over course and distance in September and it’s easy to look elsewhere.

MUTHABIR – Won three starts ago at Taunton and he’s run well in two subsequent handicaps, the latest of which coming over course and distance. He’ll strip fitter for that latest start over course and distance and won’t be far away under Ian Popham.
