IN SUMMARY: Ready preference is for BOY IN THE BAR, who won at Newcastle two starts ago in good style and despite running off eighteen pounds higher three days later at Doncaster, he ran with huge credit to finish sixth in a highly competitive handicap. Back on the all weather off a much lower mark, he shouldn’t be for catching here. Gulliver arrives on a hat-trick and will give him the most to think about alongside the in form Pettochside.
GULLIVER – Has won both his starts being switched to the all weather by Hugo Palmer, winning well by a neck when last seen. That was four days ago but there may still be more to come and he’s not one to dismiss off top weight.
KASBAH – Has some good form on the all weather for Amanda Perrett, running some good races on the grass of late. A return to this surface will suit and his current mark isn’t harsh, so he’s a strong each way player.
PETTOCHSIDE – Has been better than ever in recent starts for John Bridger, winning well at Goodwood two starts ago. He wasn’t beaten far off this mark at Newbury on his latest start, though a return to the all weather isn’t sure to suit.
INTRANSIGENT – Running well of late over the seven furlong trip, though he’s been painfully inconsistent. He now drops to six furlongs which isn’t sure to suit him and off today’s mark others are preferred here.
TROPICS – Very smart sprinter back in the day, including finishing second in the 2015 July Cup behind the superstar Muhaarar. He’s not the force of old though and has been well beaten on all his starts in 2017. Looks vulnerable once more.
SIR OTTOMAN – Triple winner in France but three runs in Britain haven’t been fruitful, well beaten at Wolverhampton on his latest start behind Gulliver. He’s three pounds lower once again but makes little appeal.
FAST TRACK – Has finished third on four of his last five starts, though he was far from threatening at Musselburgh on his latest start. He’s two pounds lower but hasn’t been seen for 142 days break and others make more appeal.
PARNASSIAN – Won off two pounds higher at Windsor in June, not disgraced when fourth at Kempton on his latest start after being outpaced throughout. He’s a pound lower here and looks sure to go close with a similar display.
VIMY RIDGE – All three of his wins in 2017 have come at the five furlong distance and on the turf, well held on most of his runs at the six furlong distance. Readily opposed on this occasion.
BOY IN THE BAR – Ran well to gamely hang on at Newcastle last month, not beaten far in a very tough handicap at Doncaster three days later. He’s now back onto the all weather on a very workable mark and has should win this well.
JAMEERAH – Progressive on the all weather back in 2016 but she’s been well beaten on both her runs in 2017 for Bryan Smart. She could bounce back now she’s returned to this surface but others are readily preferred.
