3.45pm Goodwood Tips & Betting Preview 21/09/2016

£40,000 is up for grabs in the 1m2f Listed race on Wednesday’s Goodwood card. Our betting tips focus on an course specialist who comes here in excellent form. Read on for our full race preview.

IN SUMMARY: Sky Hunter was a class act in his prime and his belated seasonal reappearance on Polytrack this month confirms he retains significant ability. He’ll be tough to beat if he builds on that performance but his best form has come over slightly further and preference is for MOUNT LOGAN, who loves this track and looked in rude health when winning a Doncaster conditions race a fortnight ago. Tullius was disappointing when last in action and his best days are almost certainly behind him, but he’s been a multiple winner in Pattern company over the years and could have a say. Epsom Icon has a Group 3 success to her name this season and also gets a mention.

1 Tullius – Responded well to first-time visor when last-gasp winner of the Group 3 Diomed Stakes at Epsom (8.5f, good to soft) on Oaks day, his seventh Pattern race success; shoulders a 3lb penalty here and was disappointing at York last month, but will be fine over today’s trip and has a big part to play if back on song.

2 Black Night – Been in excellent form on fast ground in Jersey this season, winning three times (8.5f-1m4f), but takes on much stronger opposition here and will probably find this tough.

3 Mount Logan – Dual C&D winner who landed a Listed event here (1m4f, good) on seasonal/stable debut in May and looked in excellent nick when scoring readily by 6l in Doncaster conditions race (1m2f, good to soft) this month; return to this track an obvious plus and he makes plenty of appeal.

4 Sky Hunter – Won a Group 2 at Meydan (1m4f, good) in March 2015; seen only once this season but proved a significant chunk of ability remains when third in a Group 3 at Kempton (1m4f, AW) this month; would make slightly more appeal over a longer trip but is very effective on softish turf and can play a leading role.

5 Windshear – Finished fourth in the 2014 St Leger and will be suited by today’s ground but been well below best form this season and was about 8l behind Mount Logan when third in a 1m2f conditions race at Doncaster this month.

6 Epsom Icon – Stayed on strongly to gain clearcut Group 3 win against own sex at Epsom (8.5f, good to soft) on Derby day and has reached the frame twice over 1m1f in Group company at the Curragh since then; today’s trip won’t be a problem and she probably won’t be far away.

7 Very Dashing – Non-runner

myracing Forecast Prices: 6/4 Mount Logan, 9/4 Sky Hunter, 4/1 Tullius, 5/1 Epsom Icon, 20/1 Windshear, 33/1 Black Night
