Some speedy 2yos line up for the Listed 5f contest on Day 2 of the Western meeting at Ayr. Read our full race preview for our experts’ betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: Private Matter will be suited by today’s ground and, having finished second in Listed company at Ripon last month, is respected. However, it could be worth chancing SAVANNAH’S DREAM, who has been rather inconsistent and is probably reliant on others setting a strong pace but stuck well to her task when a very creditable second in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and also performed very well in a valuable sales race at York last month. Clem Fandango will find this easier than her latest assignment in the Lowther and is also considered. Smokey Lane won’t be far away if he can bounce back from a below-par Polytrack run.

1 Just An Idea – Still a maiden after five starts; has shown some useful form, perhaps most notably when third of seven in Listed company at Sandown (5f, soft) in July (three runs ago), but doesn’t appear to be progressing and others have achieved more.

2 Northern Thunder – Bids to complete a hat-trick after bagging two small-field nurseries this summer (5f/6f); seems versatile regarding tactics, trip and ground but has quite a bit to find on the figures with the form principals here.

3 Private Matter – Improved upon very disappointing debut when making all to win Nottingham maiden (5f, soft) by 6l in June and took another good step forward when second in Listed company at Ripon (6f, good to soft) last month; has a significant role to play here.

4 Smokey Lane – Took four attempts to win a maiden but, having done so, coped quite well with the rise to Listed class when keeping-on third at York (5f, good) last month; well below that form on Polytrack last time but will be fine on today’s ground and enters calculations.

5 Whirl Me Round – Looked stretched by 6f when third in Carlisle novice race last month and today’s drop back in trip is the right move but his only win came in a very ordinary maiden and he needs to improve to land a significant blow in this company.

6 Angel Meadow – Finished well to cause 66/1 shock at York (5f, good) on debut in June but that form has taken some hefty knocks and she was comfortably held (albeit on heavy ground) when upped to 6f for a Listed race on her second start.

7 Blue Suede – Belatedly opened her account in Bath maiden (5f, firm) last month, her sixth start, and also ran well when second in a Newbury nursery (5f, good to firm) on latest outing; should be fine on today’s ground but is up in class today and faces a tough assignment.

8 Clem Fandango – Looked out her depth when upped to 6f for the Lowther at York last month but today’s race is easier and she’s a big player if judged on the form of her thirds in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot (5f, soft) and in the Super Sprint at Newbury (5f, good to firm).

9 Coolfitch – Well equipped to handle slow ground and posted a sound effort when second of 11 in a Class 5 nursery at Musselburgh (5f, good) recently but has a lot more on her plate at this level.

10 Kocollada – Won her first two starts in the spring and her second success was gained in a valuable conditions race, at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm); however, has had her limitations exposed and been rather disappointing in Pattern company since then.

11 Savannah’s Dream – Collected over £29,000 in prize-money when staying on well for third in valuable sales race at York (6f, good to firm) last month and her second at Royal Ascot (5f, soft) in June suggests today’s trip/ground combination will also suit; could be the answer.

myracing Forecast Prices: 3/1 Private Matter, 7/2 Clem Fandango, 8/1 Smokey Lane, Kocollada, Savannah’s Dream, 10/1 Just An Idea, Whirl Me Round, 14/1 Northern Thunder, Blue Suede, 16/1 Angel Meadow, Coolfitch
