IN SUMMARY: There are a few with chances in this and Kansas City Chief commands respect as he makes his first start in the UK today but looks to have been let in lightly off a mark of 124 by the handicapper. However, MOLLY CAREW could be the value with solid form on a similar surface and she looks to be going the right way. She can take advantage of a mark of 112 today.
SONG LIGHT – Has some solid form to his name and he could be a shade better than these if he’s in the right mind-set. He refused to race at Haydock earlier in the year and blew his chance in a Listed event at Ascot last time out. A risky prospect on the back of that. He hacked up on the flat at Goodwood last month off a mark of 72.
SPIRITOFTHEGAMES – Has won twice and placed once in four starts under rules. He wasn’t beaten all that far in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham this time last year and his 8-length romp at Taunton earlier in the year was fairly impressive. This yard can get their runners fit off a break and he’ll need to be fit racing off a mark of 129 today.
KANSAS CITY CHIEF – Irish import to the Neil Mullholland yard who makes his first start in the UK today. He was only beaten 3 1/2 lengths by Auvergnat earlier in the year which is solid form and a mark of 124 could be generous. Tom Scudamore is a positive booking. Respected.
VICENZO MIO – Ex-Paul Nicholls runner who showed very little for Chris Gordon last time out. A mark of 123 is 4lbs below his last mark and that leaves him well-handicapped albeit on old form. He needs to show revitalized form before becoming worthy of support.
CORLAY – French import who makes his UK debut off a 445-day break. He won in similar ground to today’s at Auteuil and he’s been picked up by smart connections so he commands plenty of respect off a mark of 120 on handicap debut. The market will guide.
BALLYHEIGUE BAY – Second runner in this for Chris Gordon and he races off a 6lb higher mark than when last successful at Plumpton earlier in the year. He looks to need further than this with his best form over 3 miles and he is opposed on that basis.
ARDMAYLE – Completed a double earlier in the year in novice handicap chases including at this track. He loves plenty of give in the ground with victories on Soft and Heavy which should suit him down to the ground. A mark of 112 looks fair but his opponents bring stronger form into the race.
MOLLY CAREW – Decent enough mare with a win over 2m on Heavy ground at this track. She will improve for a recent outing over C&D earlier in the month and a mark of 112 looks to remain lenient with more progression to come. Respected.
