IN SUMMARY: UNTIL WINNING was a course and distance from this mark back in 2015 and has gone well when fresh in the past. The fact connections have persevered with him suggests he is well worth supporting. Farm The Rock might need a little further to get his head in front, but he ran well enough last time to think he is on a winnable mark. Auenwirbel is thrown in on his French form, making his chase debut in this country. If that can spark him back to life on ground he will love, he could make the frame at a big price.
MONBEG THEATRE – Nearly three years since he showed form, not seen since a pair of poor chase efforts, the latter in January 2016. Didn’t look a natural over the bigger obstacles then, not given much respite by the handicapper for that long absence.
UNTIL WINNING – Another coming back from a long break but has gone well when fresh in the past. Scored over this course and distance from the same mark as this in Aril 2015. Regularly well backed, he’s clearly well regarded and connections persevere with him. Big each way chance.
FLAMING CHARMER – A winner at this track over shorter, his other two chase wins have come over this trip. Ran well over further at this track last time, this drop back in trip should help but a five pound rise makes for a more difficult afternoon.
JAYO TIME – Long time since he has shown solid form but has fallen a long way in the weights as a result. Soft ground is fine but a third fall in seven starts last time out leaves him a dangerous proposition despite the tempting mark.
THISONETIME – Hasn’t won since his debut in January 2016 but has run respectably since. Smart effort last time at this track on his chasing debut, but he is still to conclusively prove that this trip is what he requires.
MAJOR HINDRANCE – Improved for handicapping over hurdles last season, getting off the mark at Hereford. He was a long way below that level when making his chasing debut on his return. This is easier but that still leaves him with a little to prove.
CHANTARA ROSE – The adding of a tongue strap saw her produce her best over fences when last seen. She is yet to show her best form on ground this soft so has plenty on her plate on her first outing of the season.
FARM THE ROCK – Ex pointer ran well when runner-up at Wincanton last month. He won a point on soft so this ground should be fine for him, with this mark looking one he can win from, Might need a step up in trip to get his head in front however.
GARDINERS HILL – Rocketed up the handicap earlier in the year, he has struggled since the assessor had his say. Conditions look fine for him, with further rain no concern. Needs a positive effect from the first time tongue strap following a poor effort last time.
BRADFORD BRIDGE – Showed promise over hurdles but despite looking a chaser in the making, his pair of runs in this discipline have been poor. Trip and ground are no concern but has a little to prove for now over fences.
HANDSOME SAM – Picked up a win on his rules debut, solid form since has been sparse. Drops in trip for a new yard who do well with cast offs. A first time tongue strap could help him given he has looked a weak finisher in the past but plenty needs to be taken on trust to support.
AUENWIRBEL – Dropped like a stone in the weights since his arrival in this country two years ago, Smart form for his previous yard when trained in France, could be thrown in if the switch to fences sparks him back to life.
ARTHUR BURRELL – Only lightly raced but has been set some stiff tasks. His best form has come on better ground so even a first time tongue strap doesn’t generate enough appeal to support.
