IN SUMMARY: Dontminddboys tends to hit the frame but his finishing effort has to be questioned and he looks vulnerable once again despite the level of opposition. Preference is for BACKOFTHEROCK, who finished a good second two starts ago at Uttoxeter before a slightly disappointing run at Chepstow when last seen. He’s now dropped five pounds in the weights and James Bowen takes off a further five pounds, so he should be tough to beat here.
DONTMINDDBOYS – Quirky sort who has been in credible form of late for Robin Dickin, failing to find much under pressure when third at Plumpton earlier this month, He’s a pound lower here and capable at his best down in grade, but others are preferred.
GORRAN HAVEN – Seven race maiden for Caroline Bailey who is becoming frustrating to follow, beaten as the favourite for the third race running at Southwell earlier this month. He’s now two pounds lower but he makes little appeal as he’s yet to really threaten for victory.
BROWN REVEL – Two wins in the Point to Point sphere but she’s showed little to no aptitude for the job under rules, struggling from an early stage when pulled up at Uttoxeter last month. Makes little appeal here.
BACKOFTHEROCK – Finished second two starts ago at Uttoxeter in a strung out field before a modest fourth at Chepstow last time. It wasn’t a bad effort in the circumstances though and he retains the services of the promising James Bowen. Conditions are perfect and in a weak looking race, he can land the spoils.
TOMMY THE RASCAL – Won at the eighth attempt over hurdles but it wasn’t eighth time lucky over fences as he was well held at Southwell last time. He’s on a good mark based on his hurdling form, but his jumping has let him down in this sphere. Risky but if on a going day he’s an each way contender.
GOOSEN MAVERICK – Has shown some ability at a very modest level for Grant Cann, finishing third at Southwell on his latest start (ahead of Gorran Haven). He was never travelling that day so it was a good effort in the circumstances. If racing with a bit more zest he’s an each way contender and is considered.
