3.20pm Exeter Tips & Betting Preview 01/11/2016

Ten runners have been declared for the Class 3 handicap chase over 3m on Tuesday’s Exeter card. Our betting tips focus on a maiden seeking an overdue success. Read on for our full race preview.

IN SUMMARY: There are question marks about all the runners in this 3m chase but there is some each-way value in 16-race maiden DANCING SHADOW. Victor Dartnall’s 7yo ran poorly over hurdles when last in action but has been given a break, seems to run this track well and has the ability to overcome his current mark if back on song. By The Boardwalk still looks feasibly weighted after last month’s Market Rasen win but can’t be relied upon heavily to be in the same form today. Triple C&D winner Caulfields Venture seems best when fresh, so it was slightly disappointing he had to settle for third in new headgear here a fortnight ago. Sun Wild Life went close off today’s mark in April but would make more appeal on slower ground.

1 Caulfields Venture – Triple C&D winner, most recently when returning from break in first-time visor just over a year ago; not quite in same form when about 16l third in first-time blinkers after another break here last month and, given he tends to go well when fresh, it would be unwise to assume he’ll build on that performance; will be suited by the ground, though; visor back on today.

2 Silver Commander – Opened account over fences at eighth attempt, in small-field event at Chepstow (2m7f, good) in April 2015, but not seen again since then; been dropped back down to the same mark for today’s reappearance run but it still takes a leap of faith to support him.

3 Gary Charm – Seven wins from his 15 starts over fences when trained in France but was fairly weak in the betting for last month’s British debut at Cheltenham, where he was in midfield when unseating his rider at the fourth-last fence; likely to come good for David Pipe at some stage but others have more pressing claims today.

4 By The Boardwalk – Back on song with a good performance to win at Market Rasen (3m, good) last month, where he made smooth headway before asserting; has become rather inconsistent but subsequent 5lb rise doesn’t look excessive and he can play a part if in the right mood again here.

5 Dreamsoftheatre – Been very difficult to predict over the last couple of years but capitalised on some help from the handicapper when winning from off the pace at Bangor (3m, good) in May and also ran well when third at Cartmel (3m1f, good to soft) on latest start in August; remains on a workable mark and is suited by fast ground; impossible to rule out.

6 Fort Worth – Still a maiden after six starts over fences and won only once from eight starts over hurdles, but is quite well handicapped on best hurdle form and ran well when clear second to an in-form rival at Hereford (3m1f, good) last month; enters calculations.

7 For ‘N’ Against – Made all at Bangor (3m, good to soft) in August but can be a bit of a character and doesn’t always find much for pressure; soundly beaten over hurdles on next outing and was comfortably held in fourth after setting the pace over C&D a fortnight ago; others more convincing.

8 Skylander – Stayed on well to catch an idling leader over hurdles at Worcester (2m7f, good to firm) in August and went close over 3m3f in that sphere the following month but seems to have become rather one-paced and struggled to get involved when back over fences over C&D a fortnight ago; swaps blinkers for refitted cheekpieces.

9 Sun Wild Life – Runner-up on consecutive starts in the spring and was headed only in the closing stages off today’s mark at Newton Abbot (3m2f, soft) on the more recent occasion; claims on that evidence and subsequent lesser run presumably came too soon, but he might find the ground too lively after 193-day break.

10 Dancing Shadow – Still a maiden after 16 starts and ran poorly over hurdles when last seen in July but was third over C&D (good) in April and did well to fill same position at Uttoxeter (3m, good) in June, given he made several jumping errors on the final circuit; has a big run in him if all goes to plan and is worth chancing in an uncompetitive race for the grade.

myracing Forecast Prices: 9/2 Silver Commander, 5/1 Fort Worth, 11/2 By The Boardwalk, 6/1 Dreamsoftheatre, 7/1 Caulfields Venture, Sun Wild Life, 10/1 Gary Charm, Dancing Shadow, 12/1 For ‘N’ Against, 14/1 Skylander
