IN SUMMARY: James Tate’s TAKE SHELTER can win this having shown more than enough ability on racecourse debut. She finished second in a hot Newmarket maiden and with the benefit of that experience behind her, she should take another step forward and win this. Zain Smarts looks like an above average type for the David Evans yard and deserves respect whilst the trip looks too short for Di Fede.
CAMPION – Well-supported on racecourse debut and she was sent off 5/2 favourite which showed plenty was thought of her. She ran green that day and found the experience a bit too much but she will do much better here with that under her belt and the booking of Ryan Moore is eye-catching. Likely to attract plenty of market support and it’s easy to see why with more progression to come. Big chance here.
DADDIES GIRL – Has shown some decent enough form at Windsor on two occasions this month, including a third placed finish when beaten just 3/4 of a length. She couldn’t follow that up when sent off favourite next time out and this is certainly harder than either of her two races to date. She’s worthy of another chance now upped in class but it’s possible that she may find this slightly too tough on just her third career start.
SHESGOTTHELOT – No chance with a runaway winner on racecourse debut to finish third of six. She ran green and was detached by 5 lengths in the rear before staying on late. The form doesn’t look particularly strong and this step up into a conditions race looks as if it will come too soon for her for a yard without a winner here from 27 runners here. Liam Jones retains the ride and others make more appeal today.
TAKE SHELTER – 21,000GNS purchase and she did well to finish second in a decent race at Newmarket on racecourse debut. With normal progression expected she should be able to get involved here and take this step up in grade in her stride. The conditions are identical to those that she faced on debut although stall 10 means she will have to be tucked in if she doesn’t break well. Big chance here today.
BILESDON BROOK – Half-sister to a winner over further and the trip of 5 furlongs looks slightly short on debut. Her pedigree is full of stamina so she must be pleasing in her work at home to be tried over this trip and the yard have a 19% strike rate in the past fortnight so they couldn’t have their runners in better shape. The percentage call is to oppose her on debut but any market support would be significant.
DI FEDE – Half-sister to some interesting sorts that have won over further than this. It’s a surprise to see this daughter of Shamardal race over 5 furlongs with all the stamina in her profile and she’s probably best watched on debut for a yard that have sent out just 1 winner from 18 runners. She could be dangerous with a strong pace to aim at and she’s another that should be respected with any market support.
DOLLY DAGGER – Half-sister to some average sprinters and this stable aren’t renowned for sending out maiden winners. They have a 7% strike rate at Salisbury (2 winners from 28 runners) and they’ve been out of form lately, without a winner from 9 runners. This daughter of Pastoral Pursuits is bred for this trip but she’s best watched on debut with some nicer sorts against her.
ESTHER – £20,000 purchase and she’s an interesting filly for Amy Murphy. This yard doesn’t have many maiden runners and she may just need this run on her debut against some potentially useful sorts. This is the stables first runner here and they’ve been quiet of late so others are preferred in this given she will probably want further in time.
HASTENPLACE – Cheap daughter of Compton Place who cost just 3,5000GNS as a foal. She’s drawn on the outside here so she will have to be tucked in if she doesn’t break well and she’s another in this that looks slightly up against it based on her profile. The yard do well with their maiden runners although they’ve got a below average record here with just 8 runners from 99 runners. Others are preferred.
HIGHLAND MARY – £36,000 daughter of Dark Angel and she could attract plenty of support here for a yard in fine form here. Her dam was a winner over 6 furlongs as a 2yo and she had a string of placed efforts to her name including in a listed contest. She’s likely to be forward here and Tom Marquand takes the ride (3 winners from his last 30 runners). Respected here.
ZAIN SMARTS – Increased in value from 30,000GNS to £50,0000 as a yearling and this yard are capable of sending out some smart maiden runners. They’re operating at a 13% strike rate at Salisbury to a profit of £60.16 and she receives 3lbs from a few of her main market rivals here. This trip looks ideal on debut and she should be full of speed so she deserves plenty of respect on racecourse debut.
