2.50pm Towcester Tips & Betting Preview 05/10/2016

Our experts have a strong fancy for the low-grade staying chase on Wednesday’s Towcester card. Read on for our betting tips and full race preview.

IN SUMMARY: Red Penny has been fairly consistent under her amateur rider this season and, given stamina appears to be her strong suit, there’s a good chance she’ll be suited by the stiff track here. However, ready preference is for the other mare, PRETTYLITTLETHING, who is unexposed under rules and shaped very much as though she’s coming to hand for her talented trainer when running well for a long way over 2m7f at Worcester last month. That form has been well advertised by the winner and she is a confident selection to get off the mark now upped in trip again. She’s Late has slipped to a very dangerous handicap mark and, for that reason, cannot be ruled out, but he fell out of love with the game quite a while a go.

1 Red Penny – Placed three consecutive times off today’s mark under Bryony Frost since June; behind Relkwood when runner-up at Newton Abbot (3m2f, good to soft) on the second occasion and beaten about 14l when third there on fast ground last time, but is a rare runner here for the stable and ought to be suited by the uphill finish.

2 Relkwood – Opened account when coming from off the pace to collar Red Penny at Newton Abbot (3m2f, good to soft) in June, his second chase, but ran poorly on next outing and was behind the top weight when fifth back at Newton Abbot in August; evidently has the ability to figure but it’s hard to predict how he’ll run here.

3 She’s Late – Sent off favourite when fitted with first-time visor (now removed) at Cartmel (2m5f, good) in August but tended to run in snatches and was comfortably held in fourth; in good hands and too well handicapped to rule out but chance depends on him being in a better mood.

4 Provincial Pride – Still lightly raced over fences and has a significant role to play if able to match the form of his second in first-time cheekpieces at Stratford (2m6f, good) last summer; however, has been soundly beaten on both starts since returning from long absence in August and is very difficult to enthuse over at present.

5 Prettylittlething – Initially very disappointing when switched to racing under rules but was suited by the step up in trip and ran well for a long way when second at Worcester (2m7f, good) last month, her sixth start for Neil Mulholland; that form was franked when the winner followed-up and this mare has more to offer with the emphasis on stamina increased again here.

6 Porters Lane – Down the field when making handicap debut off lowly mark at Warwick (2m4f) last month and is effectively 3lb higher from miles out of the weights here; impossible to fancy.

7 Duc De Seville – Gained sole win from 21 starts in a low-grade AW nursery in late 2014 and predictably struggled in a beginners’ chase last month; has more realistic chance at the weights now switched to a handicap but is still 5lb wrong and makes very limited appeal.

myracing Forecast Prices: 2/1 Red Penny, 5/2 Prettylittlething, 4/1 She’s Late, 6/1 Relkwood, 8/1 Provincial Pride, 25/1 Duc De Seville, 33/1 Porters Lane
