2.50pm Brighton Tips & Betting Preview 29/09/2016

BARREN BROOK (7/1) was picked up for just 3,000 guineas by trainer Laura Mongan but put in a solid run to finish 2nd last time out and can build on that here. Moojaned and Bridge of Sighs both have place claims at bigger odds.

1 EAST INDIA – Sold by Coolmore in 2015 following initial promise but has struggled since then for 3 different trainers. Last time out run off a mark of 76 (once rated 98) was a hint at promise but only 9th and needs to show more before being backable.

2 LORD REASON – One of the more likely types, has only managed 2 wins in his 20 race career but one came here over 8 furlongs. Raised 3 pounds for a Soft ground win at Newmarket in June and last few runs have suggested handicapper has caught up – vulnerable for win purposes.

3 HUNGERFORD – 7 length 4th at Beverly last week and has appeared regressive following initial promise last summer. Missed over a year after running below par at Kempton suggesting he needed time but interesting at a bigger price with the race last time out not being run to suit.

4 COILLTE CAILIN – 5 wins from 36 starts following a double at the start of the year on the All Weather but rated 10lb lower on the turf and 0 from 10 on grass. Last run at Bath in August gave nothing to suggest she won’t go 0 from 11 despite good form on the All Weather recently.

5 MOOJANED – Ran well on Soft ground last time out at Ffos Las over 1m 4f to finish 3rd but has won three times on Good to Firm. Last win came in May off five pounds higher and with Adam Kirby booked (25% strike rate at this course in the last 5 seasons) has potential.

6 BRIDGE OF SIGHS – Campaigned on both All Weather and turf, but all 4 wins have come on synthetic surfaces. Faced a tough task at Goodwood last time out but ran reasonably and comes here in good form following a 3rd at Chelmsford 7 days ago. Place claims here.

7 BARREN BROOK – 9 year old veteran with 5 wins from 62 starts on the flat. Bought for 3,000 guineas a year ago, he won an average seller at Lingfield in July before running well behind You’re A Goat at Epsom last month. The winner that day was receiving a stone and won at Wolves on Tuesday in a solid race. This is a competitive race but he’s a good price off a very reasonable mark.

8 TOP DIKTAT – Ran flat at Windsor when last seen in July and generally runs poorly fresh. Has dropped in the weights by 7lb since February but not showing enough to suggest he’ll be competitive today.

9 MISTER MUSICMASTER – 5 wins from 22 starts on turf but has been on a dire run of form during heavy campaigning the last few months. Well beaten last time out at Bath two weeks ago and has only placed once at distances over a mile.

10 SECULAR SOCIETY – Ran well enough when finishing 4th at Plumpton last time out but has struggled on the flat his last three starts, being beaten double figure distances on all. Hurdling campaign was largely unsuccessful and while he’s shown glimpses of ability is inconsistent.

11 SOLVEIG’S SONG – Installed as overnight favourite, won over 10 furlongs on Good at Sandown last time out before being disqualified into 2nd due to edging right. Has three wins this season but this is a career high mark and 2lb raise sees her vulnerable to others in this field.

12 GANNICUS – Won at this course last year but running inconsistently this season and yet to record another victory since last September. Has been dropped 7lb form his peak rating but last two runs on Good to Firm have been disappointing.
