2.35pm Chester Tips & Betting Preview 06/08/2017

This is a Class 2 conditions stakes raced over 6f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: This is a tricky puzzle to solve and the vote goes to the Richard Fahey trained REGULATOR. He won in commanding fashion last time out and there looks to be plenty more to come from him in these conditions. He should take all the beating ahead of Ulshaw Bridge who also made a pleasing impression last time out and he can follow him home in this.

1 RUFUS KING – Was well-supported on Friday at Goodwood having been sent off the 3/1 joint-favourite for a Class 2 nursery handicap. He finished seventh of nine that day and this would be a quick turnaround following that effort. He’s on good terms with his rivals today at the weights and he has the beating of Dragons Tail on the form at Ascot earlier last month. Respected if he is turned out quickly.

2 DRAGONS TAIL – Finished 1 3/4 lengths behind Rufus King at Ascot last month and he’s 3lbs worse off with that runner today. He’s kept over 6 furlongs which looks sensible and there was plenty of money about for him last time out so it was no fluke to him as close as he was to Rufus King. The yard are in poor form of late though with just one winner from their last 29 runners and there’s a feeling that his form isn’t quite good enough for this. Stall 1 is an excellent draw though.

3 HADDAF – Jame Tate’s Dawn Approach colt is a talented sort albeit he was fairly disappointing in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. It was disappointing to only see him finish third in a Listed event at Vichy last month and he needs to do more in this tougher company. However, he shoulders a fair weight in this conditions event and he brings some decent ability into the race. He does need to prove 6 furlongs is his trip though.

4 ULSHAW BRIDGE – Put in a rather impressive performance on his second career start to win a Class 3 Novice Stakes race by 1 3/4 lengths. He stayed on nicely that day to assert his dominance over some relatively decent sorts and the form has been boosted since so he’s well worth a go in this grade. It’s questionable whether he will be ideally suited to Chester and he may want to tackle further than this in time but he could turn out to be a very good horse and he’s worth keeping onside.

5 PRESTBURY PARK – Improved a huge amount from his first to second start when winning a Class 4 Novice Stakes race at Haydock last month. He had an easy lead that day and was allowed to dictate from the front, quickening clear and never seeing another rival. He won’t have things his own way today and the ground is much softer than he encountered last time out so he may be worth opposing in this.

6 REGULATOR – Brings some decent form into the race on the back of a commanding 2 1/4 length success in a Class 5 event at Ayr last time out. He faces some nice sorts in this but he should improve again and the ground shouldn’t be an issue for a yard that are going well of late. His last run suggested that Chester should suit him and he could progress past a couple in this. Respected.
