2.20pm Plumpton Tips & Betting Preview 02/01/2017

Thirteen go to post for this 0-100 handicap over 2m4f in the fourth race at Plumpton today worth £3,249 to the winner. Read on for our expert’s thoughts and betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: Sober Sailor was an impressive winner on Boxing Day and makes a quick return in this from an unchanged mark. He should go well if this doesn’t come too soon but this could be the day SNIPPETYDOODAH gets her head in front again after her good win at Fontwell in April. She is in consistent form and she faced a tough task on her last start. This should be easier dropped back down to 2m4f and she can serve it up to the likely favourite to land her second career success today.

1 Ding Ding – Won back to back races on this course in November up to 2m1f and put up 15lb since the start of those wins. Struggled off his higher mark of 102 when tried over 2m3f at Sandown (Soft) in better company last time out when sixth of 10 and will appreciate the drop in class today. Bit to prove over this longer trip again today and can be ruled out for this.

2 Bostin – Landed a gamble at this course when tried over 2m5f (Good) two years ago when getting up to win by ½ length. Put up 6lb for that win and struggled on his next two starts from a revised mark. Returns from an eighteen month absence and 2lb lower than his last winning mark but faces match fit rivals today and best watched for now.

3 Moon Trip – Won over 2m (Soft) in Spring 2015 but hasn’t won in ten runs in both codes up to Class 3 level since. Struggled in middle distance handicaps in the Summer but back down to a workable mark now reverting to hurdles. Hard to fancy coming back from a 114 day break.

4 Thepartysover – Multiple winner but hasn’t won since scoring at Fontwell over 2m3f over a year ago and last four runs have hardly been inspiring. 2lb below last winning mark now but vulnerable to younger legs now he is a 12-y-o and makes a quick return after unseating at the third returned to that track a week ago.

5 Willshebetrying – Didn’t set the world alight when tried on the level for Jim Best recently and hasn’t really made an impression in six hurdles starts so far. Only fifth of 15 on his first start for this yard last month over shorter and will need to find plenty of improvement from somewhere to get involved today upped in trip. Yard also run Sober Sailor.

6 Snippetydoodah – Returned from a lengthy absence earlier last Spring to score at Fontwell (Heavy) over 2m5f in his second attempt over handicaps. Gone up 7lb since that win and has been running to form when runner up in her last two starts and she has every chance of going one better today now dropped back to 2m4f. Big player if ridden with more restraint today.

7 Denny Kerrell – Still a maiden after seven runs and previously trained by Caroline Keevil. Well beaten in five races in bumpers/hurdles and has showed a similar level of ability so far in two starts for Seamus Mullins and likely to struggle again in this.

8 Sweet’n’chic – Been in fair form in two starts this term with her best coming at this course over 3m (Soft) three weeks ago. Needs the drop in trip to do the job but still a maiden after ten runs and 3lb higher now after last run. One to note in the betting.

9 Sober Sailor – Previously trained in Ireland by Tony Martin and only fair form over hurdles. Belatedly got off the mark at Fontwell (Soft) over 2m3f on Boxing Day in good style by six lengths and has to be respected from an unchanged mark of 84 today. Looks the stable first string and strong place claims despite the quick return.

10 Kayflin – Still a maiden after twenty runs and hard to envisage her getting into this after finishing ninth of 15 over a shorter trip at Fontwell last time out. 6lb below her last runner up effort over C&D in March and others look stronger today.

11 Rolling Dough – Won well in a similar race at Fontwell (Good) in April (Snippetydoodah not far behind in fourth) and followed that up with a good run at Huntingdon next time out from a 4lb higher mark. Struggled since upped to a mark of 86 and has disappointed in his last two when the handicapper has been more favourable. Looks likely to struggle against the selection given the progression that one has made from a higher mark and can be ruled out today.

12 Fidelity – Been off the track for over seven months and still a maiden after eight runs on the flat and over hurdles. Easy ruled out for this.

13 Bonnie Major – Gets into this from a basement mark of 74 but hasn’t shown much in six runs so far and only seventh of 9 over C&D when making her debut for this yard three weeks ago. Looks up against it again.
