IN SUMMARY: Present Times likely hasn’t finished improving yet and Forgetthesmalltalk is another who is open to further improvement, but preference is for CLONDAW BISTO. He ran a good race when fourth at Fontwell in February, before finding the step up in trip too much on his latest start at Plumpton. He now drops in the weights once again but more crucially drops back slightly in trip, which should be enough to see him winning here.
MIDNIGHT REQUEST – Progressive sort for Nigel Wake who arrives here on the back of a course and distance victory, winning by three lengths. He kept on stoutly and has his perfect condition, so a six pound rise won’t stop him from going close.
WHAT A DIVA – Completed a double earlier this year before two tame efforts to finish off the season, well beaten at both Towcester and Ludlow. Obviously, she’s capable of much better but this mark demands more and others are preferred here.
FORGETTHESMALLTALK – Lightly raced sort for Alan King who showed progressive form in his first three runs, finishing a close third behind Midnight Request on his latest start. He’s on two pounds higher here and is a strong contender as there should be more to come.
BANCO DE LOGOS – Showed some promise in his first three runs over hurdles, though he didn’t look to be improving. He was well held at Wincanton on his latest start and his opening mark isn’t particularly nice. Others are preferred here.
SARTORIAL ELEGANCE – Won at Plumpton in December off today’s mark over fences, but he was pulled up on his last two runs, including over course and distance. This represents a drop in class but he’s entitled to need this run and others are preferred.
TRANS EXPRESS – Returned to form on his latest start here over the 2m 2f distance, winning comfortably and he wasn’t disgraced when upped in grade at Cheltenham when last seen. He does however have stamina to prove here and it has to be taken on trust.
KILMURVY – Hasn’t been seen since May 2016, where he was running well over fences for Jeremy Scott. He now returns off a very generous mark and has gone well in the past, so a big run would be no surprise.
ALBERT D’OLIVATE – Won over timber back in March 2016 off a pound lower and he’s been well held on all five of his starts since. He has gone well fresh in the past but he’s impossible to fancy in his current vein of form.
AERO MAJESTIC – Four fair runs over hurdles thus far but you’d have wanted to have seen more on his latest start at Wincanton, where he could only manage fifth at odds of 100/1. He’s now handicapping off a realistic mark for top connections, but he has stamina to prove here and others are preferred.
PRESENT TIMES – Arrives here on a hat-trick for the in-form Evan Williams yard, winning a three runner race at Carlise when last seen easily. He had his ears pricked and gave the impression far more was to come, so a six pound rise shouldn’t be enough to stop him going close with conditions to suit.
CLONDAW BISTO – Ran a good race to finish fourth at Fontwell in February and a step up in trip on his latest start at Plumpton back-fired after he became one-paced late on. He now drops in the weights once again and is down in trip which is crucial, so he can break his hurdling maiden here.
SHOOFLY MILLY – Won three starts ago at Exeter in fine style ahead of Midnight Request, but she was well held off her new mark subsequently and she pulled up on seasonal debut. It’s fair to say she may have needed it but this career high mark demands further progress and others are far more interesting.
