.30pm Southwell Tips & Betting Preview 13/12/2016

A mile handicap is the order of the day in race 4 at Southwell, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Not many of these appeal and preference is for AFRICAN SHOWGIRL, who showed promise on stable debut when 3rd over C&D last week and races off the same mark again today. She has the Champion Apprentice Josie Gordon to help get her home and has to be considered today. Top weights Stosur, who is unproven on fibresand and Dusky Dawn who is a C&D winner need to be considered.

STOSUR – On a decent mark at present and in fine enough form, latest when 5th o 9 at Lingfield in November (1m, Std). Still unproven on fibresand which is a concern but is the most solid option in the field form wise and has to be respected.

DUSKY DAWN – Won over C&D in April but has been poor in handicaps since and has a lot to prove off of top weight. Alan Swinbank is in decent form currently and she still has time on her side so has place claims if putting her best foot forward.

PENNY DREADFUL – Very poor the last twice over 6f at Newcastle and Lingfield and has a lot to prove on the back of those efforts. Not guaranteed to stay the Mile trip either which really tempers enthusiasm and best watched.

SATTELAC – Twice a winner at Ayr over 1m2f in the summer and switches to the All Weather on the back of a decent enough 6th at that course back in September (1m2f, Soft). Needs a market check on All Weather debut.

HIJRAN – Won twice on the turf for the Appleby yard and in decent enough form in the main, finishing a good 4th over 7f latest at Chelmsford. Will need to step up to feature today and has place claims.

ARCANE DANCER – C&D winner back in November 2015 and in decent enough form at present, but not particularly inspiring. Needs to show more today and probably best watched.

AFRICAN SHOWGIRL – Showed promise on her stable debut for Ivan Furtado when a running on 3rd over C&D 2 weeks ago. Of of the same mark today and has a very solid chance of taking victory with the Champion Apprentice Josephine Gordon aboard.

MIRAMONTE DANCER – Modest maiden who tailed off on her All Weather debut at Newcastle in September (7f, Std). Makes no appeal.
