1.30pm Doncaster Tips & Betting Preview 21/10/2016

Doncaster’s opener is a fiercely competitive Handicap Nursery. See our betting tips in the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Zymryan has to be respected as he is 2-2 in nurseries and Under Control is a bit of an unknown quantity. There is however reason to believe that MUTAWATHEB will improve for this slight step up in distance and ran with huge credit when finishing 3rd in a similar event off of top weight here at the St Leger meeting.

1 MUTAWATHEB – Ran with credit when finishing 3rd in a similar event at the St Leger meeting last month off of Top Weight (7f, Good to Soft). His pedigree gives us reason to believe he’ll get this trip well and conditions are absolutely fine. Should run very well.

2 AARDWOLF – Won two of his first 3 starts but hasn’t gone on from that, posting 3 pretty woeful efforts since. Latest effort at Kempton (7f, AW) was particularly poor, fading very tamely indeed. Too risky to recommend.

3 ZYMRYAN – 2-2 since being switched to Nursery company, winning well at Newcastle latest over the mile. Most likely as much more to offer for David Simcock and respected as such.

4 SOLDIER’S GIRL – Latest effort off of top weight at Pontefract in a Fillies Nursery was a good Nursery Debut (1m, Good to Soft). Pitched in with the boys for the first time and has place claims under Ryan Moore.

5 RIVIERE ARGENTEE – Poor Nursery Debut when 7th of 9 and soundly beaten at Newcastle in August (1m, AW). Will need to markedly improve to feature in this. Dismissed.

6 CLEF – Two good efforts off of the same mark at Newmarket the last twice. Very consistent and is bound to run his race, but will most likely find another horse too good. Place claims.

7 SOCIETY RED – Wasn’t necessarily disgraced when 6th of 26 in a Newmarket Sales race (6f, Good to Firm), but hasn’t really improved since a promising debut win at Thirsk in August (7f, Good to Firm). Needs to pull out more to feature and not considered.

8 UNDER CONTROL – Back to back wins last month at Musselburgh (7f, Good to Firm) and Chelmsford (1m, AW). Pitched into much hotter waters today but is very much an unknown quantity under the Champion Apprentice Josie Gordon, so has to be considered a threat for William Haggas.

myracing Forecast Prices: 2/1 Zymryan, 11/4 Mutawatheb, 3/1 Under Control, 4/1 Soldier’s Girl, 6/1 Clef, 10/1 Aardwolf, 16/1 Society Red, 33/1 Riviere Argentee
