.30pm Carlisle tips for Sunday’s Class 3 race. A really smart looking novices’ handicap with the majority of this field looking well capable of taking higher rank than this by the end of the season. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.
IN SUMMARY: COOKING FAT was a winner from this mark over hurdles last season in a progressive campaign. He showed up well on his chasing debut, a smart run given that he normally needs a run to get himself right. With that under his belt, he looks a big each way price. Just Minded looks his biggest danger, a winner on soft ground, he has the potential to be a far better chaser than he was hurdler. Another Bill has a chasing pedigree, both hurdle wins came on tracks with an uphill finish so Carlisle should suit.
SECRETE STREAM – Trotted up under similar conditions when back from a long break last November. He disappointed the only time since but is bred to be a better chaser. This mark may test him on his return, but looks capable of better on this type of surface.
CENTRAL FLAME – More than five hundred days since last seen in action, he already has chasing experience. Conditions in his favour, he is on a workable mark if he is straight enough after his time on the sidelines.
SOLOMN GRUNDY – Smart hurdler last season, winning a decent race at Newbury with plenty in hand. Struggled from a long way out on his chasing debut, softer ground will suit but that does leave him with a little to prove on this occasion.
HARGAM – Formerly very smart, it’s only a year ago that he was rated in the mid 150’s. He didn’t convince as a natural chaser in two starts in the spring, with this soft ground no help to him. Easily opposed despite the declining mark.
ANOTHER BILL – Impressive when winning a pair of novice hurdles at Kelso last season, he was found out at a deeper level subsequently. Half brother to a pair of three mile chase winners, this should be his game so deserving of respect.
SOLSTICE STAR – Rattled off a five timer two seasons back, but he hasn’t got his head in front since the last of them in January 2016. Yet to convince he enjoys the bigger obstacles, though his last run was at least a step in the right direction.
COOKING FAT – Winner from this mark over hurdles last season. For a horse who generally needs his first outing, he ran well on his chasing debut last time. First time cheekpieces are fitted now, he has a strong hand from this mark with conditions to suit.
HOGAN’S HEIGHT – Placed in two of three runs over hurdles, he swiftly has his attention switched to the bigger obstacles. The deeper the ground the better for him, he shaped well on his return but this is a much deeper contest.
JUST MINDED – Half brother to Gordon Elliott’s Diamond King, he progressed well over hurdles last season. Soft ground and this trip are no issues, he shapes as if he will be a much better horse over fences. One of the main protagonists.
SAMMY B – Won from this mark over hurdles in March so begins life over fences at a great level. Soft ground is no issue, but the best of his form has come over further. This is a stiff track but may still find a couple have a little too much toe.
MISTER WHITAKER – Lovely chasing type, he made a smart debut in this game at Fontwell behind Adrien Du Pont. This stiffer track will suit as he shapes in need of more of a stamina test. Each way chance but will do better still when faced with three miles.
SHARP RESPONSE – Strong stayer on soft ground, he was a little disappointing on his chasing debut. Entitled to come on for that first run of the season with a four pound drop in the weights, but he will need to.
INDIAN NATIVE – Impressive winner at Hereford last season on bottomless ground, she scored twice over fences in point to points in Ireland. She should win races over fences this season but at an easier level than this.
