IN SUMMARY: A classy field for this valuable contest but HEAR NO EVIL really took the breath away when winning easily on his hurdles bow and with improvement pretty much assured for that run he can win this before moving on to even better races over the rest of the season,
COOLE HALL – Bought for £42,000 after dead-heating in a point to point at Tallow in Ireland and already a winner over hurdles when successful at Kelso over two miles five when staying on well to beat Mayo Man by a neck. Even better last time when a length and a quarter second to Senor Lombardy and meets that rival on seven pounds better terms here which should be enough to reverse that form.
DONNA’S DELIGHT – One win from four starts in bumpers at Ayr back in January but he made his debut over hurdles at Carlisle when stepped up in trip to see off Arctic Vodka by five lengths when sent off the 8/11 favourite. May not be as effective on this slightly quicker surface but he is certainly an interesting contender who is not easily dismissed.
HEAR NO EVIL – Placed in two bumpers but really caught the eye on his hurdling bow when coming clear of his field on the run-in at Aintree over two and a half miles. Sure to improve for his first run in seven months he represents Dan Skelton who has had six winners in the last two weeks and he looks a very serious contender once again this afternoon and cannot be easily dismissed.
SENOR LOMBARDY – Beat Coole Hall last time out at Kelso but meets that rival on seven pounds worse terms and he may struggle to confirm that at the new weights. However, that was his first run over hurdles and followed a bumper win at Hexham and connections obviously feel he has a lot more to offer to allow him to compete again on these terms.
IMPERIAL ELOQUENCE – Very decent form in some of the best bumpers including places at Cheltenham and Ascot as well as a win at Hexham on his debut but yet to get off the mark after three runs over hurdles. He did run his best race yet when second to Hear No Evil at Aintree and meets that rival on five pounds better terms for five lengths and ought to get a lot closer at the very least.
DUDETTE – She does get seven pounds mares allowance here but looks woefully short of the class needed to even get competitive here. Beaten forty-eight and them forty-seven lengths in bumpers at Catterick and Cartmel she made her hurdling debut at Southwell when a twenty-seven length fourth of six to Polly’s Pursuit. Nothing she has shown so far gives her any chance here and a big price is expected.
