Eleven runners will all be bidding to lose their maiden tags in Wolverhampton’s second race, the 32Red Casino Maiden Stakes (Div I).

IN SUMMARY: American History can improve for a top yard and if he does so than will be one of the biggest dangers. However, NATHAN MAYER’s run last time out was very encouraging, especially considering he was unlucky. Sir Michael Stoute’s charge has plenty of potential, and comes from a good family, and is a good value bet.

1 American History – John Gosden’s colt finished third on his debut, which is the strongest form on the card. The High Chaparral colt was seven lengths behind at Yarmouth, but defeated the rest of the field by five lengths. The form of that race has worked out pretty well, and if he can improve from the run he has to be one of the key players.

2 Bahar – He cost €150,000 as a two-year-old for owners Al Shaqab racing, Richard Hannon’s colt is unraced but brings good pedigree into the race. Sired by First Defence, who won a Group One in the USA, and a lightly raced dam this will still be a tough assignment for the newcomer.

3 First Nation – Godolphin are represented by this Dubawi colt, who finished sixth on debut. He ran very green that day when finishing sixth at Leicester and should run much better with some experience under his belt today. His dam won in America, and also featured in pattern races.

4 London Master – A Mastercraftsman colt who was out of his depth when last seen in a maiden at Newbury. Today’s test may also beyond Chris Wall’s colt who was a long way off at the Berkshire racecourse.

5 Lorikeet – Hoping to improve from a midfield effort at Nottingham, Mark Johnstone’s colt will need a big improvement to take victory in this. He was 19 lengths away from the winner, but he’s entered in the Derby so must be regarded highly by his Scottish handler.

6 Nathan Mayer – Sir Michael Stoute’s colt was unlucky not to have gone closer on his debut, but traffic problems denied the Nathaniel colt of a clear run at Haydock. If he found more room it’s hard to predict whether he would win but most probably he would’ve made the top three, maybe with more luck this half this derby entry can get his head in front.

7 Quloob – A horse whose finish fifth on both appearances at the racecourse, this New Approach colt hopes for more luck in running after being hampered at Leicester last time out. He wasn’t in a winnable position, but he could’ve challenged for a place. So far his form may not be good enough so Owen Barrows’ runner has something to prove.

8 Serenade The Stars – An interesting newcomer for James Tate who cost €160,000 as a foal, looks to have a lot of strength on paper. The Sea The Stars colt, from a Dam who only ran once, he’ll wear cheekpieces on debut.

9 Suspect Package – He ran a good debut when finishing strongly at Newcastle. From that third he failed to live up to expectations when favourite back at the same track, he finished fifth that day. If James Fanshawe’s colt forgets his last run he is in with a chance.

10 Twiston Shout – He finished last from 17 runners on his debut nine days ago. He was priced at 100-1 for that run at Nottingham, and it’s likely he’ll play the role of the outsider once again for trainer Richard Spencer.

11 Wild Shot – Sired by So You Think, Wild Shot has run a duo of good efforts in maiden company. He followed a sixth at Pontefract with an encouraging run at Chelmsford. James Eustace’s colt hasn’t come close to tasting victory yet and will need to do much more to do so.
