IN SUMMARY: After the razzmatazz of Champions’ Day at Ascot yesterday, fans of jump racing have a race to savour here. The obvious one to beat is My Tent Or Yours, who confirmed he’s still a top-class performer when runner-up in the Champion Hurdle after a long absence in March. However, his subsequent form is not quite so impressive and it’s unwise to expect him to be fully revved up for today’s seasonal reappearance. His stablemate, HARGAM, has a recent run under his belt and, although he failed to hit the target last season, some of his form reads very well. At the odds on offer, he’s worth backing each-way.

1 Rayvin Black – Two wins last season, the latter in a sub-standard renewal of the Grade 2 Kingwell at Wincanton (2m, soft) in February; also hit the target on the Flat in April and will be fine on today’s ground, but his penalty probably leaves him vulnerable.

2 Court Minstrel – Smart performer who is usually seen to best effect when coming from behind in a strongly run event, and was given a peach of a ride by Paul Moloney to win the Silver Trophy at Chepstow (2m3f, good) a year ago; undoubtedly good enough to hold his own in this company but was out of form when last seen in the spring and there are no guarantees today’s race will be run to suit.

3 Gwafa – Progressive 5yo who won the Grade 3 Swinton Hurdle at Haydock (2m, good) in May and was placed in a Listed handicap at Market Rasen (2m, good) in July; has a bit to find on the figures with some of these but confirmed wellbeing when fourth in a Listed Flat race in Spain on latest outing and can give another good account here.

4 Mister Miyagi – Displayed significant improvement when creditable sixth (albeit never dangerous) to Altior in the Supreme Novices’ at the Cheltenham festival in March, and subsequently won readily over 2m4f at the April meeting there; will need to progress again to pose a threat in this company but it’s quite possible we are yet to see the best of him.

5 Hargam – One of the top juvenile hurdlers of the 2014/15 campaign and was an excellent third in the Triumph Hurdle; failed to make the breakthroughs that would have been hoped for when tackling older horses last season and was a long way behind stablemate My Tent Or Yours in the Champion Hurdle in March, but still showed some very smart form and comes here with the benefit of a recent run.

6 My Tent Or Yours – Runner-up in the 2014 Champion Hurdle and, following a long absence, proved all his old ability remains when filling the same position behind Annie Power in this year’s renewal; not quite in the same form at the Aintree and Punchestown festivals in April and unlikely to be fully revved up for this, but still very much the one to beat.
