A tough race to even look at with so many possible runners but at least history tells us that some decent horses have won it over the years with Limato the obvious highlight in 2014 and Log Out Island last season. Tim Easterby and Stan Moore have both won it twice in the last decade but Tim is the only one with any entries this season and he had plenty to pick from at the early declaration stage! He has decided to rely on Dandy Place (66/1) to add to his statistics, though he is still a maiden after six races which hardly counts in his favour. He has admittedly looked a bit of a slow learner and was third and then second in his last two races in nurseries, but this is a very different ball game and if can land this then we suspect he would be doing so at a massive price.

With the race conditions meaning each horse’s weight is defined by the median sales price of their sire Richard Fahey gets Lady In Question (33/1 Each Way) in here off a weight of just eight stone four with Cam Hardie booked to ride. After winning her maiden at Thirsk first time out she has run well enough without success in some valuable races including a two and three quarter length seventh at The Curragh and she does look very well weighted here even on that form and looks a solid each way chance and we really like her chances.

On official ratings Richard Hannon’s Repton (8/1) is the one they all have to beat as he drops in class after finishing eight to China Seas in the Group Three Solario Stakes in August. Prior to that he had finished three and a half lengths fifth to War Decree in the Group Two Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood after winning his maiden at Salisbury over five furlongs, and if he decides to put it all in this afternoon he ought to have a favourite’s chance today.

Looking for other interesting contender and Hugo Palmer has added blinkers to Mayzoun (6/1) as the son of Mayson has blinkers added as he looks to get off the mark at the fourth attempt. Two runners up spots suggest he has some ability, one of them at odds on, but cheek pieces didn’t bring the affect connections hoped so they are trying anything and everything to get him to focus and finally get his head in front this afternoon under jockey Jim Crowley.

To end with, Melissa Jane (66/1) would be a fairy tale winner for trainer Henry Spiller following her win at Chelmsford when she scored by a cosy length. Naturally, she has a lot to find on that form alone but after just the two starts there is every reason to suspect she has a bit more to offer and she could well run a big race at an equally big price. Lemos De Sousa rides the daughter of Foxwedge who is already looking a bargain at only 1500 Guineas and if she can even place here she will win more than her purchase price by finishing sixth!
