Six runners have been declared for the good-quality 7f handicap on Tuesday’s Leicester card. Read on for our experts’ betting tips and our full race preview.
IN SUMMARY: With the other front-runner in line-up (Maggie Blue) seemingly out of form, there’s every chance That Is The Spirit can seize the early lead and dominate throughout. David O’Meara’s 5yo returned to winning ways with a game success at Ayr last month and could still be well handicapped if his revival gathers momentum. However, slight preference is for C NOTE, who ran as though something was amiss after a break a month ago but will be a tough nut to crack if back on song from a mark 2lb lower than when finishing fourth in a competitive Newbury event two starts ago. Can’t Change It comes here after a win but may find today’s ground slightly too lively. Accession is in good form and expected to go well but holds no secrets from the handicapper.
1 Accession – Began season with new career-best performance, winning by 6l at Newmarket (7f, soft) in April; been on a tough mark since then but was placed back at Newmarket (7f, good to firm) in August and again in Listed company at Newbury (7f, soft) last month; probably won’t be far away.
2 Can’t Change It – Form dipped after his winning seasonal reappearance at Goodwood (7f, good) but he got back on track when scoring at Doncaster (1m, good) last month; on the downside, he’s on a new career-high mark now and would probably prefer some underfoot ease (particularly over this trip).
3 That Is The Spirit – Needed a few runs before hitting form this season but his seventh in a valuable Goodwood handicap (7f, good to firm) in August was very respectable and he rallied gamely to score at Ayr (7f, good to soft) last month; remains well handicapped on past exploits and will be dangerous if allowed to dominate from the front.
4 Intransigent – Has some very smart form to his name but hasn’t tasted victory since November 2014 and is on the downgrade now; posed no threat to the easy winner when second at Chester (7f, good to soft) last month and is effectively 2lb higher from out of the weights here; others preferred.
5 Maggie Pink – Well below best form since returning from an absence in August and ought to have been suited by the good to soft ground when finishing in midfield at Chester on latest outing; can’t exploit sliding handicap mark from 5lb out of the weights and needs to up his game.
6 C Note – Delivered on promise shown on 2yo debut when winning small-field conditions race here (6f, heavy) in April; found Group company too hot afterwards but posted a good effort when fourth in a competitive Newbury handicap (7f, good to firm) in July and is 2lb lower here; latest run was disappointing but he’s dangerous to ignore.
myracing Forecast Prices: 5/2 Can’t Change It, 3/1 That Is The Spirit, 7/2 Accession, 9/2 C Note, 7/1 Intransigent, 16/1 Maggie Pink
