The Betway Handicap 2nd Division is another tricky contest to get stuck into, see our betting tips and full race preview below as we pick apart the contest.
IN SUMMARY: The 2nd Division of the 1m4f doesn’t get any easier to pick apart, with Ardamir, Safira Menina and Callendula all bringing in solid form to the race. However preference is for ISHARAH, who was a good staying on 3rd over this trip at Kempton latest and judging by his $100,000 price tag, better things can be expected. He can leave behind some mediocre form in the past to notch up a 2nd victory from Stall 1.
1 ARDAMIR – Has been handicapping the last twice and was a good 3rd at Wolverhampton latest over 1m4f, and has finished 3rd over this C&D back in July. The King yard is in very good form at present and it would be foolish to dismiss his obvious chances.
2 SAFIRA MENINA – Came from another post code when winning at Kempton in an amateur riders race at the start of the month (1m4f, Std to Slow) and backed it up when 2nd at Southwell 9 days later (1m4f, Standard). The question mark lies as to whether she gets on with Lingfield but that wouldn’t be too much of a concern and has place claims.
3 CALLENDULA – Form is a bit topsy turvy, and had been regressing recently until a decent 5th at 33/1 odds at Kempton 2 weeks ago (1m4f, Standard). That form brings her straight into the equation and has place claims at the very least.
4 GENUINE APPROVAL – Hasn’t been convincing of late and sold out of the Portman yard for 12,000gns and is now with John Butler. Is a course winner on her 2nd start and proven over this distance but really has lost her way recently, and can’t be put forward.
5 ISHARAH – Staying on late in the day when a good 3rd of 7 at Kempton latest (1m4f, Std to Slow) and has posted some other very credible efforts in the past in the context of this race. Bought for $100,000 and has a decent enough pedigree so better things can be expected and if building upon the Kempton he should be able to win a race of this nature.
6 CLOVELLY BAY – Proven over the C&D and has posted the majority of his good form on All Weather surfaces, the latest of which when 2nd over C&D back in December last year. Hasn’t set the world ablaze this summer however and doesn’t strike as a the type for win purposes after 121 days off the track.
7 PETITE JACK – Only raced 6 times but has won twice, the latest of which came when winning here over 1m2f in October, and that form could be boosted by Take Two in the other division of the race (2:10). Still early days and should have more to give so needs respecting.
8 DUCK A L’ORANGE – Didn’t really convince on AW debut at Kempton latest from the foot of the weights, although not beaten far when 5th of 7 (1m4f, Std to Slow). Likes to lead and has Stall 2 to help with that, but there is no guarantee of a soft lead today. Needs respecting but probably find a few of these too good.
9 TOPALING – Hasn’t done much to impress on her latest 4 starts and races off that same mark again today. No appeal today.
3/1 Ardamir, 4/1 Safira Menina, 4/1 Isharah, 9/2 Petite Jack, 8/1 Callendula, 10/1 Duck A L’Orange, 10/1 Genuine Approval, 12/1 Clovelly Bay, 25/1 Topaling
