Our race preview takes a look at an intriguing Maiden Hurdle at Warwick. See our betting tips below to uncover a horse who can step on bumper form with a trip that will be much more suitable on hurdles debut.

IN SUMMARY: Although his bumper form isn’t as good as Alf ‘N’ Dor‘s, whose last two runs were good in the context of this race, ADMIRAL KID may well be up to taking this. He easily made all in a short distance bumper at Fontwell and his pedigree suggests that his step up in trip will suit him well. Wholestone has to be respected as the probable main danger who runs for an inform yard and sets the standard on hurdles form.

1 ADMIRAL KID – Last seen in February when making all comfortable in a short distance bumper at Fontwell (1m5f, Heavy). Although that doesn’t set the standard in terms of bumper form, this step up in trip should bring out more improvement judging by his pedigree and should be up to winning this. Mulholland’s yard seems to be hitting a bit of form and Noel Fehily up top is a big bonus too.

2 ALF ‘N’ DOR – Last seen in February when finishing a good 2nd in a Chepstow bumper and won the time before in impressive fashion at Ludlow, drawing 21 lengths clear of the 2nd. Judging by his pedigree he should stay this trip well and has to be considered a danger.

3 BUBBA N SQUEAK – 5th of 12 in a Warwick bumper back in May when weakening out of contention towards the finish. Certainly in good hands though and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him getting involved in this, but he really does need more and not considered for win purposes today.

4 BUGSIE MALONE – Made a good start when 3rd on debut over hurdles for Paul Nicholls when a decent 3rd at Doncaster in a novices event (3m, Soft). Not so good the next time when tailed off over shorter at Wincanton (2m5f, Soft) in March, and now with Chris Gordon’s yard. Probably will need further than the distance today so up against it most likely.

5 WHOLESTONE – Good hurdles debut at Stratford last October when a promisng 3rd but then Fell when looking as though he was starting to struggle at Newcastle in December (2m6f, Soft). However, that first hurdles effort sets the standard today and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ yard is in very good form, so cannot be discounted with any confidence and should be in the shake up.

6 WESTERN WAVE – A very long 3rd at Uttoxeter on his debut at the start of the month, and although that run showed some ability, he was well held. Sam Twiston-Davies is an eyecatching jockey booking but not enough to convince for win purposes today.

7 INFORMALITY – Showed nothing in 6 flat starts over in Jersey and nothing to convince that he can be anything special on hurdles debut.
