A Listed race to kick off with with a pair of Godolphin raiders for Charlie Appleby. Well Of Wisdom was a shade disappointing at Royal Ascot but that run in the Coventry sets the standard. He is yet to encounter soft ground, however, which makes HELTER SKELTER the one to side with here. He has a win over this trip on soft ground so these conditions hold no fears and is a bigger price than he should be.

6.10/7.10pm Prix Maurice de Nieuil

An excellent opportunity for MARMELO to get his head back in front now that he returns to a softer surface. Runner-up in the Melbourne Cup last season, that is his long term aim once more and in a field where the main French challengers can’t stack up with the level of form he has produced, he looks well set to add another success to his resume.

6.45/7.45pm Grand Prix de Paris

He’s a short price but it’s hard to get away from JAPAN here. Derby runners have a very modest record in the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot but he shrugged off that negative trend to absolutely dominate his field. That was visually the best display from a three-year-old colt this season, recording a smart 120 RPR in the process. There is nothing in here capable of running to that standard, with no issues over an ease in the ground.

7.25/8.25pm Prix de Thiberville

The fillies take centre stage here with EBONY bringing strong Group 1 form to the table from the French Oaks. She was only ninth there but she was less than four lengths behind the winner there which is a strong level of form. She has proved herself on this ground and can take this drop in grade in her stride to get her head back in front.
