A six-furlong sprint to end the Channel 4 card and one that has been taken by just the two favourite and one joint favourite in the last ten years, with winners at odds up to 8/1 but nothing at a double figure price as yet. Without a single course and distance winner in the field, new ground will be broken by the victor but if we are looking for a horse in form then we ought to start with Suqoor (12/1 Each Way) who finished second to Sign Of The Kodiac two races ago at Chelmsford n the same class. Stopped by the softer ground at Windsor last time out that run is best ignored completely and on a better surface here he should be the perfect ride for Kenichi Ikezoe who looks like he could be in for a profitable afternoon.
Richard Hannon has entered Papa Luigi (14/1) here instead of his other possible runners but whether that means anything is open to question. He did win three races in a row earlier this season but has suffered since being put up in to the high 80’s and he may well do so again off of 89 this afternoon.
Sunflower (16/1) intrigues for in form trainer Andrew Balding and is surely a lot better than we saw on her reappearance at Newbury when last of ten to Log Out Island. After winning on her debut at Windsor she was thrown straight in to Group One class when sixth of eight to Lumiere in the Cheveley Park Stakes last September before being put away for the winter She di pull too hard for her own good on her return but it was still a poor run but the jury is out on her true abilities and her first run in a handicap off a mark of 95 may yet see a return to form, and it will be interesting to see how she goes this afternoon.
Poor old Soapy Aitken (12/1) has to carry top weight of ten stone this afternoon but the potent combination of Clive Cox and Frankie Dettori may go better than expected. He won his first two races at Leicester and Windsor as a two-year-old but hasn’t bothered the judge since in six races, two of them this season. He has been highly tried this season with a fourth to Easton Angel in a Listed race and then finished twelve lengths of the winner in the Group Three Coral Charge in blinkers, but this is a big drop in class and he won’t be an easy nut to crack.
Lastly for this afternoon and Flying Pursuit (9/2) was a respectable if not exciting third to Mont Kiara at Newmarket off a rating of 89. Put up another pound he ought to struggle this afternoon but he is trained by Tim Easterby, and we all know that he can ready one for a handicap now and then so a market watch is advised!
