The one for today may well be THOMAS HOBSON, who has strong prospects on the form of his second in this race last year.
Has been a very mixed bag this year, second in a Longchamp Group 2 being his best run of the campaign. Less good in three efforts that surround it, however, beaten a long way at Newbury last time. Claims but not straightforward.
Form claims on his Group 2 second at Longchamp (1m6f) in July and not ruled out

Lowest rated in the field by quite some margin, not quite good enough to win at pattern level in two previous attempts. Well beaten at the Shergar Cup when last seen, would need rain and plenty of it to have any real frame chances.
Career-best run when third in Listed race at Sandown (2m) in July but plenty more needed

Front-runner who was a Listed winner at Newmarket in July 2017, not quite at his best this year. Well beaten in the Ebor last time, prior to that he was held in a French Group 2. Needs a career-best and should miss out today.
Second of three in a 1m6f Group 3 at Navan in April; needs more and less good since

Very smart on his day, finishing fourth in the Yorkshire Cup earlier in the campaign. Not quite as good since but there is plenty of pace in the race and it should be set up for a hold-up runner. Best jockey booking for the course.
Hasn't been in the same form this season, last time well held back at York

Has been very poor this year with the exception of a good second in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot. Has beaten just one rival home in his last two starts; even his best form likely leaves him with a small amount to find.
Very good dual-purpose horse but something to prove at present

Looking for a handicap hat-trick when beaten a long way in the Ebor last month, perhaps not having the best of trips. Smart handicapper on his day, but stepping into this sort of grade leaves him with something to find.
Smart handicapper; something to find on form upped in trip here

Likeable nine-year-old who was placed in Group 2 company behind Vazirabad at Meydan in March, not in the same form since returning to Great Britain. Yard in much better form now, however, and foolish to dismiss him entirely.
Below par at Royal Ascot but second in Dubai Gold Cup in March would give him fine chance

Finished second in this race twelve months ago, sixth in the Melbourne Cup subsequently. Not quite in the same form in two runs this year, but his best brings him into the reckoning. First string for Willie Mullins, given the jockey booking.
Best efforts, including second in this last year, would make him a leading form contender
