Nigel Twiston-Davies Stable Update 21/04/2018

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

All is well with the horses following Aintree and Nigel is still putting a brave face on things after leading fancy Blaklion was brought down at the first, though we can tell you here that he will head to Sandown for the Bet365 Chase next weekend where he will hopefully recoup some of his followers’ losses, but more of that in our next article.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this afternoon it will be on……

Ballyoptic 4.05pm Ayr Saturday

“History will show you that as a stable we do pretty well in this race, though our last win was with Hello Bud in 2009 and I hope to put that right this afternoon. Although we have the three runners, Ballyopic is my best chance (I think) and will certainly appreciate the better going expected here. He deliberately missed Liverpool for today and this is the plan, so fingers crossed for a winner.”

If Ballyoptic wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday’s Other Runners:

Foxtail Hill 1.45pm Ayr

Finally he might get some decent ground again, and that is what he needs to be seen at his best. Forget his recent efforts and have a look back to his Cheltenham win on good ground in October last year off just a pound lower, and you can see why I think he has a pretty decent each way chance this afternoon.

Benbens and Cogry 4.05pm Ayr

“I freely admit that Ballyoptic appears to be my number one here but horses make fools of us all and stranger things have happened. Last year Benbens finished third off a pound lower and Cogry one place in front of him off six pounds lower, but they are both in good form at home and wouldn’t it be funny if we landed a stable one-two-three.”

Bombers Moon 2.10pm Bangor

“One more horse for the weekend and another who is expected to appreciate the better ground. He ran as well as expected in third at Huntingdon at the end of March and can go well here, though it does look a closely matched field and I would be happy with a place”.

Nigel Twiston-Davies will be back next week for his views on his runners as well as on a daily basis for all the major festivals! To see what our tipsters are backing in all the weekend’s races, check out our free daily horse racing tips!
