Nigel Twiston-Davies Stable Update 02/02/2018

Friday February 2nd 2018 - 15:02

Not the greatest weekend for the Nigel Twiston-Davies stable last week (all came home safe and sound even though Bristol De Mai disappointed), but that’s racing and we can now look forward to the next few weeks and regular reports on the stable wellbeing as the clock slowly ticks down towards the greatest race meeting of the season at Cheltenham, from March the 13th to the 16th inclusive. Meanwhile, the Grand National weights will be announced on Tuesday week with Blaklion sitting high in the ante-post betting and although not every runner can win we are proud to be so closely associated with one of the most powerful yards in the Country.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this week it will be on……

Cogry 3.35pm Sandown Saturday

“I can’t be anything but pleased with him so far this season with a win at Cheltenham on his return and a second at Warwick last time out, and I am hoping he can win this as well as I want him put up in the handicap so I can get him in to the Grand National. I have him as fit and ready as he can ever be and with Jamie (Bargary) taking three pounds off his back, he has a solid chance this afternoon and seem sure to run his usual game race, and hopefully a winning one.”

If Cogry wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday Selection:

Ballyoptic 2.40pm Wetherby

I have to be honest and say that he is on a bit of a retrieval mission here having scored like a professional on his debut over fences at Exeter in November but not really getting anywhere near to repeating that in two races since. He continues to work well and school well and needs to get back on track this afternoon and if he does, then the RSA Chase at Cheltenham will be firmly back on the agenda.”

Sunday Selection:

Calett Mad 3.10pm Mussleburgh

“The plan is simple enough in that we want him to finish in the first six home here so he qualifies for the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham in March as per the rules. I am pretty confident that is more than achievable but with close to £13,000 to the winner and £2000 or so for third, I’m looking for more and a win is certainly not beyond his abilities.”

Nigel Twiston-Davies will be back each and every week with his thoughts exclusively for myracing.com as well as every day over the major meetings! To see what our tipsters are backing in all the weekend’s races, check out our free daily horse racing tips!
