Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 30th September 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Well Nigel has been a bit quiet lately (but it was the summer), and we are back in action this weekend with three runners at Market Rasen on Saturday afternoon. We spoke to Nigel today and below are his thoughts – plus the Charity Bet, of course. He also reports that Ballyandy will have learned from his winning debut over fences at Perth on Thursday and that he has returned in fine fettle and ate up this morning as expected.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £50 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this week it will be on……

Ballybolley 4.30pm Market Rasen

“I am pretty keen on his chances here with all the conditions looking very much in his favour. He will love the good to soft going, the two-mile five-furlong trip, and the makeup of the track, and with Daryl Jacob in the saddle who has won on him five times now, I have to be pretty hopeful. It is a tough contest I admit but I have him where I want him and he ought to run a big race.”

If Ballybolley wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Other runners:

Better Days 3.20pm Market Rasen.

“The going is my main concern here as he is so much better on a decent surface and if there is any further rain overnight I may even pull him out in the morning. He is in good form on the home gallops and ran well last time out when second to Riddlestown at Towcester back in May and I have him as fit as I can get him at home, but he just doesn’t like it soft so can’t be seen as any kind of banker at present”.

Ballymoy 5.40pm Market Rasen

” I do think a lot of him and am hoping he has a big future over hurdles and even fences in the long term, but it is hard to be overly confident in a bumper like this. There are so many unknown quantities and likely improvers that confidence is hard to quantify, but he is in good heart and won’t be disgraced regardless, and I am more hopeful than anything else today.”
