Nigel Twiston-Davies Aintree Update 13/04/2018

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Day Two of the three day Aintree spectacular and Nigel has four more runners this afternoon as we all build up to the big day on Saturday. Thursday didn’t go to plan with Bristol De Mai a gallant second to Might Bite (no disgrace there) but The New One pulled up but today is another day and we move on.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this afternoon it will be on……

Flying Angel 4.05pm Aintree Friday

“We have two in this contest (see below), and both have chances, but I nominate Flying Angel for my charity bet based on how well he has been schooling and working at home in the last few weeks. At his best he is very good indeed with three quality wins over fences, and he has had a breathing operation since he last ran, and I am hoping that can help him get back to his very best form here.”

If Flying Angel wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Friday’s Other Aintree Runners:

Bigbadjohn 4.05pm

He jumps really well and could make fools of us all here when he races against stablemate Flying Angel. In my view he is very narrowly second best to my charity bet but he won’t be disgraced even in this field, and I expect a big run regardless.

Count Meribel 4.40pm

He has been in really good form all season with one exception and he won’t be far away again here despite what the bookmakers think. He looks in really good form at home and I am hopeful of a big run at a big price this afternoon, though it is a very tricky race as you would expect

Al Dancer 5.15pm

“This is as competitive as you would expect for Aintree and I can’t be confident by any stretch of the imagination but he ran well when winning at Bangor by six lengths on his first run after arriving at the stable from Christian Williams, and he keeps improving at home so I have to be hopeful. He wears a hood here for the first time which will help him focus and a big run is very much on the cards and at a big price as well.”
