Nigel Twiston-Davies Aintree Update 11/04/2018

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Day One of Aintree and Nigel is certainly in top gear looking forward to a meeting he rarely leaves empty handed. Blaklion  and Double Ross are both reported to be in good form at home ahead of the big one on Saturday, but we have a few horses to talk about before then I am delighted to say.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this afternoon it will be on……

Bristol De Mai 2.50pm Aintree Thursday

“We deliberately bypassed the Cheltenham Gold Cup for this race and I am hoping that decision will be vindicated here. The rains have softened the ground which won’t do him any harm and may well hinder plenty of his rivals, and he is in great form at home. I am hoping he can beat Gold Cup second Might Bite here to show everyone just how good he really is.”

If Bristol De Mai wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Thursday’s Other Aintree Runners:

The New One 3.25pm

Fair to say he knows his way around here having won this race in 2014 and placed in it on two other occasions including a third to Buveur D’Air last season. He came back home in good heart despite a disappointing run at Cheltenham in March and is working as well as ever at home, so I have to be hopeful of another big run here.

Robinshill 4.40pm

It seems fair to suggest he found himself a little outclassed in the Arkle Trophy when last of five at the Cheltenham Festival, but he is back in handicap company and ought to find this more to his liking. The recent rain has dampened his chances and I doubt we see the very best of him now, but you have to be in it to win it, and on a good day we could sneak a bit of the prize money here.
