Paul Nicholls got off to a slower start than usual this season but appears to have turned a corner in recent weeks. He’s operating at a healthy strike-rate of 29 per cent in the last fortnight and three of his stable stars are set to run at Newbury on Friday.
The big guns have well and truly been unleashed so we’ve combined his three biggest runners into a treble. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Regent’s Stroll (8/11, William Hill) immediately made a good impression on his trainer and he confirmed that by winning two bumpers last term. He was particularly impressive when winning a valuable bumper here in March and remains an exciting prospect. Hurdles should improve this future chaser and connections will have high expectations here.
Kalif De Berlais (11/8, bet365 was an above average juvenile hurdler last term and won two races at Kempton, including the Grade Adonis Juvenile Hurdle. A little disappointing behind Sir Gino at Aintree in April, he is still the apple of Paul Nicholls’ eye. We didn’t learn much when he fell on chase debut at Carlisle but he should be up to winning this with a clean round of jumping.
Captain Teague (5/2, William Hill) won the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle here as a novice hurdler and he showed a good attitude to tough it out that day. Nicholls has earmarked him as a future chaser since day one and progress is anticipated in this sphere. Harry Cobden is unlikely to mess around and a strong test of stamina would suit nicely.
