Owen Goulding’s huge 713-1 mud lover’s ITV double for Saturday

The weather has the potential to wreak havoc with the weekend’s racing once again. Cheltenham Trials Day looks set to succumb to the weather, but we will keep out finger’s crossed a Friday inspection has a positive outcome.

We still have good action elsewhere for our horse racing tips, however, with Doncaster hosting three Grade 2 races on Town Moor. That includes plenty of ITV action, and you’ll need a mud-lover to be successful on Saturday.

Doncaster is currently soft, with rain and sleet expected in the coming days. I’ve taken a look through the ITV races and have found a pair of outsiders who will relish the mud. You can find all the details of the huge 713-1 double below!

2.40 Doncaster – The Cob

By all accounts, this isn’t the strongest of Grade 2 contests. There’s plenty of unexposed horses, but the highest-rated in the line-up is just 135. Emir Sacree and Flash Collonges will be hugely popular given the connections they hail from, but a chance can be taken on The Cob.

Ben Pauling’s charge has the benefit of five hurdling starts, winning a pair of them. Both of those successes have come with give under foot, latterly when taking a heavy ground handicap at Haydock.

He idled badly for that victory and looked to have plenty in reserve, which makes his subsequent Newbury defeat all the more puzzling. On pedigree, today’s step up to three miles isn’t sure to suit, but he’s given the distinct impression he’s capable of seeing it out.

This isn’t sure to be run at a strong gallop the trip, and if they do meander for the first mile, it’ll bring him straight into play. He’ll glide through the mud and is likely to be played late. If he has enough in reserve, he looks a massive price under Jonjo O’Neill Jr.

3.15 Doncaster – Takingrisks

He’s well into the veteran stage of his career, but twelve-year-old Takingrisks has proved that he retains a huge chunk of his ability in recent seasons.

Nicky Richards’ charge simply loves heavy ground. The veteran has won of seven occasions under rules, with five of them coming with the going being described as heavy.

He arrives in good form too, having finished fourth to Yorkhill at Newcastle on his most recent outing. He didn’t have the best of trips that day, but he kept on strongly late and meets Yorkhill on six-pound better terms here.

This galloping track will really help matters as he also loves a test. With thirteen declared, this should be run at an end to end gallop, which will allow him to show his best. Richards’ string are in fine form at present and there’s plenty to like about his chances as a result.
