Majestic Marquand bids for Leicester five-timer after another huge weekend

Tom Marquand has been the man of the moment in recent weeks, with big race victories left, right and centre! Winning the St Leger two weeks ago with a chance spare, he landed both the Doonside Cup and Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday in another hugely productive weekend.

There’s no stopping Marquand at present and he could be due another big day at Leicester on Monday. He has five rides at the venue and all of them have a very solid chance of returning a winner.

We’ve taken a look through all five of rides in detail, to see whether a Marquand five-timer really is a possibility!

2.00 Leicester – Flirty Rascal

Five-race maiden who has shown plenty of ability, beaten a length on handicap debut at Goodwood two starts ago. That was a hugely competitive Nursery and it was disappointing she couldn’t back up that form at Salisbury last time.

Her Goodwood run gives her huge claims at this level, however, and she can race off the same rating today, which gives her an obvious chance if bouncing back.

2.35 Leicester – Rio Ronaldo

It’s been a long time between drinks for this eight-year-old , with his last win coming back in June 2018. That being said, he missed most of 2019 and now sits six pounds below that rating.

He’s shaped well on both his starts in 2020 and now should be just right in terms of fitness. This is just his second start at Class 5 level and he’ll have no excuses today returned to six furlongs.

3.05 Leicester – Rose Hip

Ascot winner two starts ago who was beaten just over a length when bidding to follow up back at the Berkshire venue just two weeks later. She’s now a pound lower and remains lightly-raced after just twelve starts.

Her profile is mainly progressive and it would be no surprise if she had more to offer. That being said, she’d need to resume that sequence to be winning a competitive affair.

3.35 Leicester – Dhabyah

This should be a facile task for Marquand, with this three-year-old being long odds on. It’s not hard to see why, running to a very smart level of form in two starts thus far.

She faces just two rivals, with one achieving little on debut and the other seeing the racecourse for the first time. It would be a huge surprise if she was unable to take advantage of this field.

4.10 Leicester – Elegant Love

In great form since joining Tony Carroll, winning at Haydock two starts ago before a close second at Newbury off today’s rating. Bumped into an improver that day and being able to race off the same mark is a massive positive.

Finds herself in a competitive contest but is entitled to have her say.
