Guide to Glorious Goodwood Day 3

Goodwood Racecourse

The focus is on the fillies for Day 3 of Glorious Goodwood, with the day headlined by the Group 1 Nassau Stakes, a Group 1 for fillies and mares contested over the 1m 2f distance. This year’s renewal is an intriguing puzzle, with several very classy horses needing to bounce back against some improving commodities. Our Glorious Goodwood Tips can be found on site now as we enter the business end of Glorious Goodwood!

Godolphin aiming for a second Nassau

Zahrat Dubai’s win in 1999 remains the only time that Godolphin have landed this Group 1 prize, but that could be about to change as Wild Illusion bids to enhance the owner’s record. Charlie Appleby’s daughter of Dubawi has placed in two, 1m 4f Group 1’s the last twice, just lacking the final finishing burst. On that basis, a drop to 1m 2f looks a very positive move and with her Group 1 victory as a two-year-old, she has all the class needed to take this. Lockinge winner Rhododendron was a massive disappointment at Royal Ascot and needs to bounce back for a stable far from their peak, while the improving Urban Fox bids for back to back Group 1 victories.

Frankie looking for a glorious return

Banned for the antics of Angel’s Hideaway at Newmarket in July, Frankie Dettori today returns from his suspension to a book of four rides. His biggest chance looks to be in the Richmond Stakes at 3.00pm with Richard Hannon’s Neverland Rock, who has been rapidly improving with each start and the yard has won the race six of the last ten times. He also rides Precious Ramotswe in the Lillie Langtry at 2.25pm, Veracious in the Nassau Stakes and Mehdaayih in the maiden contest at 4.45pm.

Stat Of The Day

Iain Jardine sends just the one horse down to Glorious Goodwood on Thursday, with Marnie James making the 734-mile round trip from his yard. That is a near thirteen-hour round trip, with this three-year-old aiming for a third win from four starts in the concluding handicap contest.
