Friday All-Weather Feast & a 21/1 Treble

The weather is causing chaos in the UK and Ireland with meetings being abandoned left and right. We’re still hopeful that the racing will go ahead from Ascot and Haydock this Saturday, including the Ascot Chase for which Cyrname is available at 40/1 here.

3.10 Lingfield: Phuket Power

A large part of Silvestre De Sousa’s success has come on the All-Weather. He’s ridden 174 winners on synthetic surfaces in the UK since the start of 2016, of which fifty seven have come at Lingfield. He’s started 2020 in fine form, with one winner and two runner-ups from just five rides on these shores.

He takes the ride on Tom Dascombe’s PHUKET POWER today for King Power Racing. The three-year-old has enjoyed his racing on the All-Weather this winter, landing a Kempton maiden back in December. He’s finished second the last twice, including when denied narrowly over track and trip earlier this month.

The front two pulled clear there in what was a career best effort from the gelding. He’s three pounds higher today, but remains unexposed particularly over this seven furlong trip. With top jockey De Sousa onboard, a big run has to be anticipated.

6.30 Dundalk: Munaajaat

Joseph O’Brien continues to enjoy great success over both the jumps and on the flat. Sixty-two National Hunt winners this season run alongside an impressive 29% strike-rate at Dundalk in 2020, with eight of his twenty-eight charges winning.

He’s also enjoyed success over in the UK, with three wins from five raiders this year already. That includes his MUNAAJAAT, who justified strong market support over eleven furlongs at Kempton earlier this month. She posted a career best on her first start at the trip there, scoring comfortably under Ben Curtis.

She returns to action off a five pound higher mark tonight. That’s a far from excessive rise in the weights, and the hugely talented Mikey Sheehy, who’s ridden two winners from four rides this year, claims a massive seven pounds. Effectively two pounds lower and sure to appreciate the twelve furlong trip, she stands a great chance of doubling up.

7.15 Southwell: Arabian King

Fledgling trainer James Ferguson has enjoyed a productive start to life training, saddling three winners from fourteen mounts. Just as he’s taking well to training, his ARABIAN KING has taken well to Fibresand.

The gelding bolted up on course debut at Southwell in January. The four-year-old, acquired from David Elsworth, proved equally destructive under a penalty six days later. Sent off the 1/3 favourite, Luke Morris’ mount put six-lengths between himself and the second, with the rest of the field strung out.

He saddles another five-pound penalty tonight. Even so, he’s two pounds ahead of the handicapper and his two recent victories suggest that he’s capable of progressing further. Now two-from-two at Southwell, a course that suits specialists, he has very strong claims of completing a three-timer.
