French Guineas Previews + 14.75/1 Double Tip!

Although we may have seen both our Guineas go the way of Aidan O’Brien once more, this weekend sees Paris-Longchamp host both the Poule Dessai Des Poulains and the Poule Dessai Des Pouliches, the French 2000 and 1000 Guineas.

The Main Overseas Chances for the French 2000 Guineas!

13 runners will contest the Poule d’Essai des Poulains, the French 2000 Guineas, and over half the field is made up from runners across the Channel from Paris-Longchamp. Aidan O’Brien comes double-handed with both Never No More and Van Beethoven. The former looks to be his best chance, winning both his starts this term, including a Listed race at Leopardstown last time.

That said, he isn’t the only Irish trainer coming to have a crack at the race, with his son Joseph looking to spoil the Guineas party. This, however, looks a very hopeful task for No Needs Never, who was second in a Group 3 at Naas last time and that form falls significantly short of the required standard.

The British charge is lead by Martyn Meade’s Advertise, who ended his two-year-old campaign with a second-place to Too Darn Hot in the Dewhurst. That made his recent blow out in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket all the more disappointing. Meade is confident he’ll get the mile, however, and we could be set for a much better performance from him.

Persian King Looks For His Crowning Moment

PERSIAN KING has looked a very special horse in the making for Andre Fabre, winning all four of his starts since debut, including when beating subsequent 2000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia at Newmarket in October. His reappearance over course and distance was a stark warning to the competition, and they’d be foolish not to heed the King’s warning.

He sets the form standard on what he’s achieved thus far and is very difficult to oppose representing a yard that has won this race on six occasions.

An Open Look To French 1000 Guineas!

With the favourite currently priced up at 7/2, it’s a very open renewal of the Poule Dessai Des Pouliches, with Kevin Ryan looking to raid Longchamp with East. His daughter of Frankel won her first two starts, including a Group 3 win at Saint-Cloud, before finishing second to Newspaperofrecord at the Breeders’ Cup. She does lack race fitness against some smart types, which has to be a concern here.

Angel’s Hideaway was unfancied in the market for the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket but finished a very respectable fourth, finding plenty for pressure that day. She’s unexposed at the trip, but her rivals do have far more attractive and progressive profiles. One such horse is Imperial Charm for Simon Crisford, who returned this year with a second to race favourite Castle Lady, which gives her an each-way squeak.

Elsewhere, Aidan O’Brien fields Coral Beach, who was a marked improver towards the end of her two-year-old campaign, though she didn’t stay the mile on her only previous attempt, and the form of her Group 3 win at Leopardstown has been badly let down since. Rainbow Heart goes in familiar colours for William Haggas but has a mountain to climb on what she’s achieved thus far.

Suphala Looks To Turn The Tables On Watch Me

Showing plenty of ability as a two-year-old, Andre Fabre’s SUPHALA made her seasonal return in the Prix Imprudence, where she fell foul of Francis Graffard’s Watch Me. The two reoppose today, with the edge given to the aforementioned Fabre inmate.

She was prominent throughout before being tapped for toe in the final few furlongs, where Watch Me got by her. The advantage was a short-neck at the line after Suphala battled back and given she looked quite backwards that day in her coat, the best should still be to come from her, especially up in distance.

14.75/1 Double Tip!

With Persian King currently 11/10 at the time of writing and Suphala 13/2, the double with Racebets currently pays £14.75 to a £1 stake. Both horses appear to have an excellent chance on Sunday and fingers crossed they can run massive races.
