Flynsini

Analysis
  • EVT

FLYNSINI has been out of sorts recently, but he is the only previous course and distance winner in this field, and he arrives here running off his last winning handicap mark. He gets the nod at the expense of Kilbarry Calling, who was a winner at Thurles last time out and could have improvement to come now tackling handicaps in this sphere.

We'Ve Got Payet

Analysis
  • EWD

Bazarov has been beaten at odds on the last twice, and, therefore, looks a risky betting proposition at present. WE’VE GOT PAYET looked potentially useful when landing a bumper for Olly Murphy in July. Things have not gone to plan since, but he is now in the care of Sophie Leech, and the change in scenery combined with the addition of first-time cheekpieces can see him put up a much-improved performance this afternoon. He can land the spoils at the expense of last time out Taunton winner Lamh Ar Lamh.

Steely Addition

Analysis
  • MA

This should be fought out between Station Master and STEELY ADDITION. The latter was well held at Chepstow last time out, but if running up to his official mark of 150 he has over a stone in hand on Kim Bailey’s charge, so looks the one to beat.

Lerichi Belle

Analysis
  • L15

Tigeralley has been in fine form over hurdles, beaten half-a-length off this mark three days ago. If making it round unlike when falling on her chase debut, she can figure, although preference is for LERICHI BELLE, who has joined a yard who do well with new recruits. A wind op will help with her tendency to finish weakly, and she has ideal conditions here. She can bounce back to her best in a weak contest. Benny’s Girl won this last year, although that came off twelve-pounds lower and she’s been in poor form recently

Ruby Yeats

Analysis
  • L15

Same Circus only found one too good on her return to hurdling, considerably clear of the third. She is entitled to figure, although the firmer ground counts against her and her chasing exploits last year have pushed her mark up to a restrictive level. One for whom the surface is ideal is RUBY YEATS, who was beaten three-quarters of a length under similar conditions two starts back. She was a solid third last-time off this mark over an inadequate trip, and back up in distance, she can get her first success for this yard.

Felix Mendelssohn

Analysis
  • EWD

Saint Freule was a winner at Hexham last time out and could have improvement to come with that first win now under his belt. Preference is for FELIX MENDELSSOHN, however, who may not be the easiest to win with, but was well backed prior to his run at Ayr last time out. That suggests his connections were confident of a big run, and the first-time blinkers applied this afternoon are backed to work the oracle and see him make a return to the winners’ enclosure. The handicap debutante Murphy’s Law is feared most.

Analysis
  • L15

Hattons Hill won this race last year, but he has now failed to complete in any of his last four starts. VEAUCE DE SIVOLA justified favouritism to score at Musselburgh last time out, and a five-pound rise looks manageable considering he has run well from much higher marks in the past. He can land the spoils this afternoon at the expense of Arizona Bound.

In what is a weak contest it’s hard to ignore the claims of TOUR DE PARIS (NAP), who has been reformed by the switch to Tapeta. He scored cosily on course-debut from Geordielad before placing under a three-pound rise, when a shade unlucky and only finding an in-form rival too good. He can return to winning ways here, at the expense of the aforementioned runner who still has something to find with the selection despite the three-pound swing in the weights. Top Rock Talula should stay this far and a repeat of her latest effort over one-mile-four would see her get involved.

Iconic Girl silk

Iconic Girl

Analysis
  • L15

Zorawar should be thereabouts, despite being fourteen-pounds higher than when last scoring, after a solid second here in a claimer last-time. Bayston Hill is now two-pounds higher than when a close-up third in November, and a pound higher than when last scoring. He handles the surface, and is well enough treated to figure. The pair should be vulnerable to handicap debutante ICONIC GIRL however, who is well-treated on her first start in this sphere, particularly over a new trip that looks sure to bring about further improvement.

Dark Miracle

Analysis
  • WA

DARK MIRACLE took a big step forward on his second start, staying on nicely to chase home a well-fancied Gosden-colt over a mile. This new trip is well-suited, and given that the third has scored since, the form is rock solid. He can get off the mark here, at the expense of debutante Yellow Label who runs for a typically in-form Balding yard and is related to a few useful performers through his dam. Just Benjamin is also of interest upped in trip after a solid debut.

Analysis

HAVANA ROCKET (NB) won with any amount in hand at Newcastle last-time, his first run after a wind op. He makes his handicap debut here, and with further progression sure to be forthcoming, particularly with Oisin Murphy onboard, he can complete a double. Wanaasah is of interest on her second stable start having finished a close-up second last-time over an extra furlong here, and Multamis won here on handicap debut, and if ready to go after a break would be thereabouts.

Jackstar

Analysis
  • MA

Impressive debut winner JACKSTAR sets a very decent standard here. He accounted for what we now know to be a useful field when winning a Newmarket novice event in April, the third that day now rated 107. He can make light of his penalty here and gain back-to-back wins, stepped up to a trip that suits him judged on pedigree. The Johnston team are in flying form, and Oasis Prince is a respected debutante. He is related to a Group Three winner and his dam won on the All-Weather. Shamkha was a close-up fourth on debut and should be thereabouts once more.

Kafeel

Analysis

It was only back a year ago that KAFEEL was winning comfortably here over a mile off a seven-pound higher mark. He was in fine form last winter when wearing headgear, his recent form falling off a cliff without it. He gets a visor today for the first-time, and a significantly better showing can be expected. A three-time course winner, he is the selection at an each-way price. Maazel broke a losing runs stretching back to 2016 when scoring by a neck over course and distance recently. Whether he can gain back-to-back successes remains to be seen. Dark Magic was nearest at the finish over six last-time, beaten just over a length. He too can figure.

Blazed

Analysis

Having a rare start over seven, Little Palaver is of interest running off the same mark as when dead-heating at Kempton in January. He has been eased in grade, and can go well alongside Call Me Grumpy for whom the same applies. He was beaten just over two-lengths last-time in a tougher contest last-time and is the main danger to BLAZED, who can take a significant step forward from his reappearance here. Conditions are of no concern to him, and he’s now running from a lower mark than when placing in two more competitive handicaps in the summer. He was only beaten four-lengths last-time, and can out-run his odds now that he’s race-fit.

Le Torrent silk

Le Torrent

Analysis

The marathon trip rarely leads to consistency amongst those who campaign over it, as shown by recent blow-outs amongst three previous winners. The one of those who is preferred is LE TORRENT, who scored cosily on his return under Tom Marquand before giving no running last-time. He is re-united with that jockey, under whom he goes well here, and can return to winning ways. One who could figure is Music Man, who was beaten just two-lengths returning from a considerable break. If stepping forward from that over this more suitable trip, he’d go close, and Atomic Jack is a consistent performer who shouldn’t be far away.

Chutzpah

Analysis

Miss Green Dreams looks sure to go well having placed in her last two starts at this venue. Ignatius disappointed having been gelded last-time. He is entitled to have needed that run, and is now a pound lower than when placing at Kempton in December. Those two are shortlisted in a tight race, although a chance is taken on CHUTZPAH, who has hinted at ability in his five starts. He has looked rather slow over one-mile the last twice, this step up in trip looking well-suited. He has been dropped five-pounds from his handicap debut, and can figure at a huge price here.

Dove Mountain

Analysis

Hardly the most competitive of events to end the card, in which preference is for DOVE MOUNTAIN, who was Olly Murphy’s first winner as a trainer back in July 2017. Talented amateur Alex Ferguson is having a rare ride on the flat here, and can see this one run to good effect in a weak contest, now five-pounds lower than when fifth over course and distance in January. The formerly prolific Attain is without a win since June, which came off eight-pounds higher over track and trip. He is a danger if back to his best, and he wasn’t beaten too far in a claimer too starts back, so has to be shortlisted, along with Tobacco Road who placed off a pound higher two starts back before finding Class Five company too hot.

Hiupinthesky

Analysis

Mares only for this two mile five and a half furlong handicap hurdle and the obvious pick is hat-trick seeking Lady Longshot but she steps up in trip after winning her last two at Fontwell and Newton Abbot and has been off track since last June. She can go well fresh but has to give three pounds to HUPINTHESKY who looks an interesting import from the point to point field, with This Lovely Lady the sort who should improve for her recent wind operation.

Jenkins

Analysis

Just the five runners for this two and a half mile Novice Chase and what looks on paper to be a two horse race. Secret Investor looks a major player for Paul Nicholls, and it would be no surprise to see a flawless round at last after intensive schooling. So far he has made mistakes over fences and another would open the door to Nicky Henderson’s JENKINS who won his first start over fences at Stratford before a length fourth at Cheltenham and a length and three-quarter third at the same track. He has to carry a winner’s penalty today but should lap up the drop in class.

King Calvin

Analysis

Not quite as easy as it looks at first glance and a chance is taken on KING CALVIN who was far better over hurdles than his chasing mark and looks as if he will learn with experience. Dropped back to a far more suitable trip at last he can give his best here at an each way price and may prove too good for Pointed And Sharp who is also expected to show some serious improvement for the in form Hobbs yard.

Findusatgorcombe

Analysis

A huge age range for this three and a quarter mile handicap chase with top-weight How’s My Friend looking for win number five on his thirtieth start over fences at the veteran age of fourteen. He looks up against it here with the likes of FINDUSATGORCOMBE who is half his age in opposition and a winner last time out at Wincanton, staying on strongly over a fraction shorter. He could well follow up here with Lizzie Langton his biggest danger.

Analysis

Some pretty decent novices will do battle here with the Paul Nicholls trained Miranda the main danger if there is one to NOT SO SLEEPY who was pretty decent on the flat and looked as if he was beginning to translate that to hurdles when making all to win here last time out. He would be odds on at these weights on the flat and could be thrown in off this mark over hurdles, making him the one to be on in this field in a race well worth watching.

Nice To Sea

Analysis

Clearance has been in flying form since returning from hurdling, completing a recent double. He’s sure to be thereabouts, although he runs off twelve-pounds higher today, without his claimer. Preference has to lie elsewhere, with the lightly-raced mare NICE TO SEA the selection. She has placed in her last two starts over course and distance, the first when denied a clear run and the second in a tougher race. She remains very well-treated nudged up just a pound, and can get a deserved success here. Kirtling wasn’t beaten too far when last seen four-months ago, and nine-pounds lower than when last winning, this dual Tapeta winner is also of interest.

Analysis

The ultra-consistent Dodgy Bob cannot be ruled out of it for place claims, and whilst Atyaaf was poor over track and trip in January he’s been staying on nicely over five recently and should be able to get involved.

Analysis

Ginger Max is a well-related debutante who shouldn’t be too far away, and Rainbow Girl makes appeal on her All-Weather debut, having placed in both starts on turf in the summer, beaten just under three-lengths by one now rated 102 last-time. Preference has to be for TOP BREEZE (NAP) however, who scored authoritatively on debut. He disappointed as favourite last-time, although the form of that second has been franked by the winner, who has scored twice since and was denied by a neck in Listed company since, now rated 97. The drop back to five is well-sutited, having been too keen last-time, and he should take some beating.

Analysis

A highly competitive race in which any number of these could get involved, the one preferred being SECOND COLLECTION, who scored narrowly over track and trip last-time.
