Foundation Stakes Tips & Betting Preview

Foundation Stakes tips for Wednesday’s Listed race. A field of eight go to post and this promises to be an interesting contest. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: BRITTANIC hasn’t been seen on a racecourse since January, but he won both of his starts on the All-Weather in good style. This is a tough race to bring him back into, yet it also suggests that he’s well regarded and he could be overlooked in the betting. The market should guide best about Promising Run on his first start in the UK this season.

1 SPARK PLUG – Can be a little frustrating at times but he’s a classy sort and his second place effort at Windsor in a Group 3 last time out gives him a good chance in this. He has Listed form to his name this season with a victory at Sandown and he’s worthy of consideration here.

2 WHAT ABOUT CARLO – Has failed to build on a good Listed success earlier this season at Newbury. He was beaten six lengths in a Goodwood handicap over course and distance last month and his seven length defeat at Newbury just four days ago doesn’t inspire confidence.

3 FRANKUUS – Races with a 5lb penalty for his Group 3 success at Haydock early last month and he finished a fair way behind Spark Plug at Windsor last time out. This softer ground will suit him far better today so that form could be reversed and he has a leading chance in this.

4 BORN TO BE ALIVE – A model of consistency in his career to date with form figures of 2122. He finished 1 3/4 lengths behind Bay Of Poets in France last time out and, whilst this is stronger, that form entitles him to race in this company. Others make a bit more appeal today though.

5 BRITTANIC – Lightly raced son of Excelebration who has won both of his career starts. He’s not been seen since January, so something has clearly happened at home to keep him off the track. He’s bred to be smart though and market support would be significant, albeit this will be tough to win.

6 MONARCHS GLEN – Connections gelded this son of Frankel earlier in the summer following some frustrating efforts and that saw him finish second in a Class 2 handicap last time out. He’ll be dangerous in this if he can build on that run, however he’s not entirely straightforward and is vulnerable for win purposes.

7 PROMISING RUN – Makes his first start in the UK since October last year having been campaigned in Dubai over the winter. He ran with credit in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta and that entitles him to respect today, although a long absence is slightly concerning. This could be a pipe opener for another winter at Meydan.

8 BILLESDON BESS – Has won or placed on her last five starts and she arrives here on the back of a one length success in a Salisbury Listed event last time out. She’s vulnerable in terms of ground and, whilst she continues to improve, this looks stronger and others make more appeal.
