Grand National Festival Tips Day Three

The big day of the meeting but before the Grand National itself, there are five other contests to enjoy. There is a handicap hurdle to get the day up and running, before a competitive Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle.

Another handicap chase follows, followed by a Grade 1 for the staying hurdlers in The Liverpool Hurdle, a race that Big Buck’s farmed from 2009-2012 with four victories on the bounce.

That leads into the one that the nation is waiting for, The Grand National. A 34 strong field will attempt to navigate their way through the mammoth 4 miles and 514 yard distance and over famous Aintree fences such as The Chair, Valentine’s Brook, Foinavon, Becher’s Brook and the Canal Turn.

Corach Rambler is sure to be on the betslips of many bettors across the UK and Ireland to retain his crown in 2024. Last year’s winner arrives here off the back of a terrific third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but the handicapper is now sending him off 13 pounds higher then last season.

Lucinda Russell’s defended his crown in the Ultima (Festival Trophy Handicap Chase) in March 2023, a feat that only two horses have managed over the last 40 years and only four in the history of the race. That victory saw last year’s Grand National winner 10 pounds well in for the big one and despite the extra weight this year, the bookmakers have him as the strong favourite for the 2024 Grand National.

The Maghull Novices’ Chase is the final Grade 1 on offer right after the big handicap and we have a good bumper to round off a great festival.
