The Diamond Jubilee (formerly the Golden Jubilee) is one of the highlights of the meeting and a top class sprint won in the past by the likes of Royal Applause, Choisir, Starspangledbanner, and Australian wonder horse Black Caviar. Run since 1868 it was re-named the Cork & Orrery Stakes in 1971 when a Group three before being upgraded to Group Two in 1998 before being re-named the Golden Jubilee and finally given Group One status in 2002 in honour of The Queen and took its current title ten years later for obvious reasons.

You can also view our Diamond Jubilee Stakes tips here.

  • Age – Although we need to be aware that race was amended to four-year-olds and above as recently as 2012, history shows that 18 or the last 21 winners have been aged 4 to 6.
  • Odds – Shocks happen! Plenty of winners at big prices with just the one at odds of lower than 9/4 come race day (Black Caviar). Nothing bigger than 33/1 in the last 21 runnings though.
  • Place in the market – 18 of the last 21 runners came from the top 9 in the betting.
  • Official Ratings – 19 or the last 21 winners have been rated 118 or below.
  • Previous run – 17 of the last 21 winners had finished in the first seven home on their previous outing.
  • Previous races – 13 of the last 21 winners competed in the Duke Of York Stakes, Kings Stand Stakes, or Leisure Stakes.

Trends Analysis

A trends article is exactly that and personal opinions need to be cast aside now and again and the facts simply stated. If past trends are repeated in 2018 then we could see a big priced winner with 33/1 shot D’bai one of only three runners who come out with a 100% stats record and with William Buick riding for Charlie Appleby he ought to do a lot better than his price implies. Projection also arrives with a full deck for trainer roger Charlton and jockey Kieran Shoemark but does look held on recent form though as mentioned, stats are facts and they point to the five-year-old having a far better chance than his odds imply. The Tin Man is the last of the perfect trio and having won this last year in a very decent time he may well be the one to come out on top with a winning prep run in the Leisure Stakes a decent pointer in what should be a fascinating contest.

Likely favourite Harry Angel joins a list of four runners with just the one red cross against their name courtesy of his high official rating which is also the only negative spotted for Librisa Breeze while Bound For Nowhere, City Light and Merchant Navy could all have a say according to the trends in what looks like a race well worth watching on Saturday afternoon.
