2.35pm Newmarket tips for Saturday’s Class 3 race. Plenty of fillies arrive here in good form, making this a tough race to piece together. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.
IN SUMMARY: Progressive for Luca Cumani, VUELA put in a great front-running shift when second at Leicester on her latest start. She remains with potential for far better in time and, with conditions to suit, she can take another victory under Andrea Atzeni. Cribbs Causeway has won four of her last five runs for Roger Charlton and rates as the biggest danger ahead of Three Duchesses who is likely to run her race.
1 ELYSIAN FIELDS – Finished second at Goodwood back in May which represents good form, but she’s been well held on her last two runs. She showed very little on that latest start (four lengths behind Lucy The Painter) and others look far less risky.
2 SAGELY – Ran some very good races last year yet he’s been unable to match that form during this campaign, with his third at Salisbury in July remaining his only effort of note. He was well held on his latest start at Chelmsford and, off only a pound lower, others are preferred.
3 LUCY THE PAINTER – Perhaps flattered by her proximity to the principals when fifth in the Lancashire Oaks as she’s been well held in handicaps the last twice. She was beaten ten lengths at Haydock two weeks ago and, although better ground will suit, she has plenty to prove and a poor strike rate.
4 LANGLAUF – Three wins from her last five starts, including her penultimate run at Chelmsford where she won by a neck. She was poor on her latest start at Salisbury though, weakening tamely when headed and she looks in the handicapper’s grip at present. Others are preferred on balance.
5 VUELA – Progressive type for Luca Cumani who has won two of her five wins, putting in a great front-running shift at Leicester on her latest start. That, perhaps, wasn’t an ideal tactic and a bigger field should suit, with the handicapper not moving her mark since that run. Andrea Atzeni takes over and she looks a tough nut to crack with further improvement.
6 CRIBBS CAUSEWAY – Has won four of her last five races, back to form on her latest start when winning comfortably at Salisbury in August. She’s seven pounds higher here but still improving and the best may yet be to come. Conditions will suit and she looks like the biggest danger to the selection.
7 THREE DUCHESSES – Has run two solid races in defeat the last twice for Michael Bell, not beaten far in two good races at both Goodwood and Doncaster. She’s on the same mark here and does look in the handicapper’s grip, perhaps vulnerable to an improver but she can give a good account again.
8 TARTE TROPEZIENNE – Won her maiden at the third attempt when driven out at Ripon in August, improving again on handicap debut when a clear second at Bath. That form looks fair and she was only headed close home. Good chance off of five pounds higher and is considered.
9 LADY BERGAMOT – Three wins from four handicaps for James Fanshawe, winning by a head on her latest start at Goodwood (ahead of Three Duchesses). She’s three pounds higher, but there is likely far more to come and she’s a strong each way contender as she’s unexposed at the distance.
10 STAR ROCK – Won a maiden over course and distance on her latest start, breaking her duck at the fourth attempt after showing improved form throughout her starts. She makes her handicap debut off a mark of 80 which isn’t harsh and, if returning at her best after four months off, she’s a contender under Josie Gordon.
