8.15pm Newcastle tips for Friday’s Class 5 race. A deep five furlong sprint in numbers at least, with a maximum field chasing a first prize of £2,911. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: SAVANNAH BEAU should get the strong pace that she needs to be seen at her best here, with cheekpieces back on to replace the visor that she has been wearing recently. She ran well here last time from the same mark, looking overpriced in this contest. Kodicat is interesting in first time cheekpieces, she has put together a solid run of placed form and can get into the mix once more. Casterbridge is best when able to dominate as he did from three pounds higher in May. He was placed here last time so if able to get into a good rhythm on the front looks a solid frame prospect.

1 KODICAT – Third on all three starts on Tapeta, including last time out. She has first time cheekpieces added in a bid to coax a little more from her and end the run of places. Solid each way chance once more.

2 BIG LACHIE – Slipping to a fair mark, he has shaped well the last twice at Kempton, keeping on. Those were both at six furlongs, the trip of his sole Tapeta win so he has a little to prove dropped down to this trip.

3 JOEY’S DESTINY – A seven furlong claimer is his only win since mid 2014, he is on his third trainer of the year. Has raced at this trip just once, a five furlong debut success at Folkestone in 2012. The distance is the main concern here.

4 MR STRUTTER – All three wins have come in 2017, the latest a seller at Thirsk over this trip. Needs a little more if he is to add to those victories from a career high mark.

5 CASTERBRIDGE – Made all the running over this trip at Leicester in May, he’s three pounds lower now. Placed over this course and distance last time, has a chance if able to dominate this field.

6 CONTROL CENTRE – Only form on Tapeta has come in sellers. Won off this mark at Hamilton in June so can argue a case if first time blinkers work, but his form on synthetics doesn’t stack up as well.

7 HAMISH MCGONAGAIN – Won from a pound lower at Lingfield in January over this trip, he is a former Tapeta scorer. Disappointing here last time out over six furlongs, has a squeak if that can be excused.

8 PERFECT WORDS – All eight wins have come at this trip, including on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton. Placed from higher in the past but is yet to win from as far up the weights as this. Needs more if he is to land this.

9 SAVANNAH BEAU – Visor may have stopped working, she has cheekpieces back on here which is interesting. She wasn’t beaten far here last time from a couple of pounds higher, she looks off a tempting mark, could be a spot of value in this contest.

10 ASTROPHYSICS – Runner-up four times already this year, he doesn’t find it easy to get his head in front. Seven pounds lower than when twice placed over this course and distance last autumn, he has a place squeak once more.

11 FIRST BOMBARDMENT – Thirteen pounds lower than when winning over this course and distance last October. Has just a 2/33 career record so tough to back with any confidence having only beaten a single horse home over his last three starts.

12 PEARL ACCLAIM – 0/13 on sand and 3/55 overall, he hasn’t won since June 2015. Placed twice over this trip on Tapeta in the last year but he doesn’t have much to recommend him at present.

13 AMBITIOUS ICARUS – Admirably consistent, he placed twice over course and distance in September. Both wins this season here, he’s sure to run his usual honest race, each way chance once more.

14 GROUNDWORKER – Inconsistent but has popped up twice over course and distance in the last year from similar marks. Well supported in the betting both times, a market check is advised once more. Each way chance if on a going day.
