7.55pm Kempton Tips & Betting Preview 30/03/2016

IN SUMMARY: This is a fairly weak race for the grade and provides a decent opportunity for ISIS BLUE (3/1) to gain his second C&D win of the year. Rod Millman’s 6yo is lightly raced for his age and the style in which he made smooth headway before striking the front here in January suggests he probably had a bit left in the tank. He suffered a nasty incident when unseating his rider back here last month but still makes plenty of appeal. Two of these won maidens on their latest outings but Bank Of Gibraltar doesn’t have a convincing overall profile and the Lingfield event won by Harry Holland didn’t look very competitive.

1 Corporal Maddox – Three AW wins since the autumn but two of those came in plating company, the latest a three-runner claimer at Lingfield (6f) this month; didn’t run badly back in a 7f handicap a fortnight ago but today’s trip might stretch his stamina and others make more appeal.

2 Chevalier – Claimed after winning in plating company for Richard Hannon last spring and won Sandown handicaps on first two starts for Karl Burke (7f/1m); proven on Polytrack but will need to return from 201-day absence in peak form to have any chance off current mark.

3 Bank Of Gibraltar – Had become rather frustrating but got his act together when making all for clearcut success in 7f Wolverhampton maiden in January, his eighth start; might use that success as a springboard, but takes on stronger opposition now back in a handicap.

4 MIster Musicmaster – Showed the best form of his career on turf last year and is currently 1lb below the mark off which he scored at Newbury (1m, good to firm) in June; not quite as effective on Polytrack, though, and finished down the field after break here a week ago.

5 Harry Holland – Improved upon low-key debut when making all in 1m Lingfield maiden last month; it’s unwise to get too excited by that form and an opening handicap mark of 79 asks plenty of him, but the potential for further progress is obvious.

6 Squire – Ended 2015 turf season in decent form, most notably when second in Silver Cambridgeshire at Newmarket (1m1f, good) two starts ago; returns from break on slightly lower AW mark but has fitness to prove and may find 1m a bit sharp nowadays.

7 Isis Blue – Evidently suited by the drop back to 1m when gaining breakthrough win here in January, his 14th start, and still appeared to be travelling well before hitting the rail and unseating his rider back here last month; could still have more to offer over this trip and might be the answer.

8 Red Paladin – Gave good account when third over C&D on latest outing in October and runs off the same mark today, but has become quick a tricky horse to win with and will require a well-judged ride from Tony Hamilton.
