7.45pm Carlisle Tips & Betting Preview 29/08/2017

A field of eight go to post as the racing draws to a close at Carlisle on Tuesday evening, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: It’s almost impossible to oppose THORNTOUN CARE, who is thriving at present and he still managed to win his latest start at Musselburgh despite the race going against him tactically. He just held on after being held up off a slow pace, with a four pound rise unlikely to stop him as he’ll get a stronger pace here which he loves. Jamie Gormley continues to take seven pounds off his back and he looks tough to beat.

1 CHELSEA’S BOY – Four year old who is well treated on the best of his 1m 4f form in 2016, but he made a low key debut for the Donald McCain yard on his latest start and he’d been poor beforehand. That leaves him with a lot to prove here despite the yard going well at present and others are readily preferred until he shows some form for McCain.

2 POLAR FOREST – Won at Beverley on his penultimate start at the 1m 2f trip, keeping on well after being up at the front throughout the race. He was far from disgraced on his latest start at Yarmouth when third but he has a very mixed record beyond the 1m 2f trip and he’s a risky play now upped to the 1m 4f distance. His last attempt at this distance ended with a never threatening fifth and others are preferred.

3 SHERIFF OF NAWTON – Six year old son of Lawman who has been running well of late without managing to threaten the judge, behind Thorntoun Care when fifth over course and distance on his latest start. A reverse of those placings though doesn’t look likely as the strong pace here should go against him. He’s back under professional handling and conditions are fine but he can only be given place claims.

4 THORNTOUN CARE – Course and distance winner who is absolutely thriving at present for Iain Jardine, only finishing outside the top two once on his last five runs. He gained his second win in this great sequence when holding on gamely at Musselburgh two weeks ago. He’s now four pounds higher but this race will suit him better as that race was only a five runner affair. Jamie Gormley retains the ride and takes seven off his back, so he looks very tough to beat.

5 LE DELUGE – Won off four pounds lower back in July 2016 but he’s been sparsely seen this season, running poorly in three runs. He ran out on both his hurdling runs and he returned to the flat when going off too quick at Redcar earlier this month. He needs to prove his stamina at the 1m 4f trip and this quirky customer is best left alone with what he’s shown this season.

6 GHOSTLY ARC – Placed off comparable marks in the summer of 2016 but he’s been tough to follow, only winning one of his nineteen starts. He returned this season over hurdles at Market Rasen where he was left behind by the fourth hurdle and he has something to prove back on that flat. Others look far more straight forward and he should miss out here under Patrick Mathers.

7 NEPETA – Won at the seven furlong trip as a two year old just over a year ago but she returned this season without much zest, only eighth at Beverley and weakening quite tamely towards the finish. She can perhaps be forgiven that run as she was off for so long but she’s far from guaranteed to stay this distance and caution is advised on this occasion despite connections being in such great heart at present.

8 PRINCESS NEARCO – Lightly raced three year old who has run well in a pair of 1m 4f handicaps for Patrick Holmes, keeping on well towards the finish on his latest start. This is likely to be a strong test which could suit him on that evidence and he wouldn’t be one to discount off a mark of 60 despite connections having a very barren spell.
