IN SUMMARY: This is an open contest and the vote goes to NEERAAN. He showed promise on racecourse debut at Haydock and he will benefit from the experience and switch to the All-Weather. Msayyan is an interesting sort on pedigree with a Derby entry and he can follow the selection home.
TANSHEET – Carries a 6lb penalty for a Newcastle novice stakes victory last month. This looks like a strong race full of unexposed maidens and racecourse debutants so following up that success will be no easy task. William Haggas has a 26% strike rate in the past fortnight.
ACCESSOR – €140,000 purchase by Exceed And Excel out of a decent mare. Andrea Atzeni is a positive booking and the yard are capable of sending out first-time winners so he’s worth close attention in the betting on debut.
BOW STREET – The yard do well with their two-year-olds, especially on the All-Weather and this son of New Approach commands respect. He’s related to some relatively decent sorts, although stall 13 is a poor draw which will make life difficult.
DESERT PATH – The yard don’t thrive with their two-year-old runners, especially on racecourse debut and he’s best watched in this. He has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and it won’t be long before he’s stepped up in trip in handicap company.
DRAGON MOUNTAIN – Ran a respectable race on debut over this course and distance to finish third of 11 early last month. He was a big price that day, yet his performance was no fluke and the form stacks up well behind the Royal Lodge winner. Interesting.
FUTURE SCORE – Saeed bin Suroor is operating with an 18% strike rate at present and this son of Cape Cross is an interesting sort on debut. He’s likely to need more time and distance to be seen to best effect, although stall two is fine and it would be unwise to oppose a newcomer from this yard.
GLOBAL EXCEL – Looks up against it in this strong field based on his low key debut at Ffos Las back in August. He will certainly improve on that run, but he could be readily outclassed by a few well bred sorts in this.
KASSAR – 100,000gns purchase as a yearling by Exceed And Excel out of a Sadler’s Wells mare. Roger Charlton does well at Kempton and he is capable of sending out a two-year-old winner on debut, however stall 14 is a major negative.
METKAIF – Second runner in this for Richard Hannon and he’s also a racecourse debutant. He has a more favourable draw from stall nine and this son of Iffraaj has a decent enough pedigree so he’s another that merits respect.
MSAYYAN – Purchased for 200,000gns as a yearling and John Gosden’s son of Camelot has an interesting entry in the Derby. He should turn out to be relatively smart, although he may need the run and the market will guide best.
NEERAAN – Likely to improve for his racecourse debut at Haydock when he finished fourth of seven on Good to Soft ground. Dane O’Neill keeps the partnership intact and the Roger Varian stable has been operating at a 19% strike rate recently.
RAPIER – Relatively cheap purchase as a two-year-old costing 60,000gns. He’s dirt bred given his sire is Animal Kingdom and he’s out of Smart Strike so Kempton should suit on debut; however there seem to be smarter sorts on pedigree in the field.
SAFARHI – Alan King doesn’t have many two-year-old runners, let alone winners, and this son of Farhh is best watched on debut. The yard are going well at present with a 27% strike rate, but this race could turn out to be smart and others are preferred.
TIMOSHENKO – Finished ninth of 11 on racecourse debut at Yarmouth, beaten 17 1/2 lengths. The step up in trip and switch to the All-Weather is a definite positive, although he will want further in time and others make more appeal in this.
